I am a shift manager in a McDonald’s delivery kitchen. I run shifts on a day to day basic as well as other tasks on the side, such a completing the crew schedule, hiring new staff, daily product checklists and discipline. In all I play a part that links with everyone’s else’s and keeps the kitchen running.
I have learnt many new skills over the past year whilst being a new manager and being on my apprenticeship course. Some of the skills which I have developed are communication, time keeping, problem solving and multi tasking. By developing these current skills it has helped me manage my job role and complete my apprenticeship along side.
I enjoy my program a lot, I find the work easy to complete and the learning is engaging. I find the mix of on the job learning and sit down learning is a great balance. My tutors have been amazing which has really helped me excel during my program. Overall I enjoy the program lots.
My program is very well organised and structured. Each section is based on one thing and there are deadlines to complete learning in each month which helps keep it organised. I find the structure easy to follow and complete. I like that you can go back and look at previous learning if you need to.
I have received lots of support from my employer. My company is very big on apprenticeships and has just had a virtual apprenticeship day. My business manager also allows me time each week to complete my apprenticeship and supports me when I need guidance or help. Work has been very supportive.
I have received lots of support through my provider. We have monthly catch ups and I can message my tutor whenever I am in need of help or support. If I am unsure of something then they provide all the help they can. They have also provided me with extra maths classes to help me gain my maths qualification.
I feel it has opened my eyes to other things that happen in my restaurant and it’s not all about running great shifts it’s about what else is also going on in the store. It has helped me venture out my comfort zone and ask to complete tasks I didn’t think I would ever do.
I’m not 100% sure if there are any extra curricular activities that I could get involved it. We do have a work place app now which is a bit like Facebook but for work purposes only where we can share thoughts and highlights but other than that I’m not really sure.
Yes
I would recommend this company to a friend as they have been so helpful during my apprenticeship and have guided me through any rough areas I may have come across. I also think it is a great way of gaining a qualification as you can still work along side of it.
I would tell anyone who is applying that to make sure it it’s right for you and that your going to make the time to complete the bits you need to as no one can do it but you. However it is a great thing to do to gain a qualification.
