  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I try to gain experience in as many different areas across the Sustainability Team as possible, this involves engaging with projects under the following sectors: - Climate Adaption - Carbon - ESG - Circularity - Energy Transformation - Planning and Assessments - Transaction Advisory At the moment I prefer to specialise in Energy Transformation and typically get involved in solar pv projects. This can involve site visits, creating simulations of the solar panels, and writing up reports to present to the client.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have mainly developed soft skills such as presenting and public speaking, which are important and transferrable skills that can be used in many situations. I have developed these through client meetings, both in person and online, site visits, and presentations both at university and at work. I have also been able to learn how to use certain technologies specific to my job, such as simulation programmes which allow me to simulate solar panel designs.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy both the degree and the work offered by Arcadis. Right from when I first joined I was very quickly integrated into projects and have seen my role progress within project work, as I have been able to take on more responsibility. I have also enjoyed the university aspect, and have found the work a rewarding experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When I first joined the programme was relatively new and therefore both Arcadis and the university were very open to feedback. I have always found the work enjoyable, and more recently Arcadis apprentices have been granted an extra study day a week which has made a positive improvement on our ability to manage our time.

  • I have received amazing support from Arcadis, my line manager is particularly supportive and very proactive in ensuring I am engaged at work and have the right amount of project work on. Arcadis is also very supportive around our university commitments and have recently granted the apprentices an extra study day a week to support out degree learning.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university and lecturers are very supportive and aware of apprentices' work commitments. They are very happy to give feedback on assignments and run extra lectures which you can attend if you require extra support. Apprentices also have regular meetings with a representative of the university and our line managers, to ensure communication between Arcadis and the university remains regular and open, and any concerns can be expressed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have picked up various skills at university which I have been able to transfer to my job. For example I have been able to massively develop my soft skills at university, such as presenting and public speaking, which has proved very helpful when attending client meetings or presentations at work.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • What sets Arcadis apart is its community feel. The support offered here is unmatched and the friendly nature of everyone in my team as well as everyone I meet in the office creates a really nice working atmosphere. It is very easy to ask for help and feel a valued member of Arcadis.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
  • Arcadis will be a good fit for you if you're open to working in a team, I have found Arcadis to be very people focused and that comes through in how we perform our work and complete our projects. I would also say the people who progress fastest at Arcadis are proactive and not ashamed to ask for support.
