Daily, I ensure that my programme runs to the plan and assist any subcontractors and suppliers when doing so. I ensure MCAPs are not overdue and bulk MCAPs have been raised. I engage in client meetings and internal meetings as well as complete any follow up work from these meetings.
I have learnt new skills on excel as this wasnt a platform I was over familiar with. It has allowed me to navigate the project much easier. I have also started to use smartsheets which allows all information to be stored in once place which makes it much easier to run the programme. I have also developed my confidence as I have hosted meetings and created slide packs for account team meetings.
I do enjoy my programme very much. the people I work with are always supportive and ensure I am understanding of a task in hand. I also love the managing side of projects and helping contractors dissipate their issues. I think the hands on part of the job on site is exciting also.
The apprenticeship is well structured as the university allows you to have enough time to do your uni work and your work so they do not overlap. I think with the university being online too, it allows a lot of flexibility which is great for if a certain day at work is really busy.
Arcadis is very good at supporting my needs as an apprentice. They are aware that my knowledge is not strong in some areas of the programme and offer me extra support where I need it. They have sufficient training and are always offering forums to give feedback. I think extra support could be added around projects and delivery.
Though arcadis is good at giving support, UCEM is not easy to navigate and I hardly receive any support when doing my studies. They offer anonymous forums which are easy to find but my not be relevant to the question I have. I think they could offer a more one to one scheme over zoom or teams where you can share your work and receive feedback prior to submitting
The work provided on UCEM is very job specific and does assist me in my day to day work. Having a course in management to begin with allowed me to see the fundamentals of project management and how I can link this to arcadis own structure. The law module was hard but did give me a basic understanding of what I need to know.
Arcadis offer great socials that allow you to connect with people you wouldn't usually connect with on a day to day basis. They also offer online networking events which are very interesting and full of useful information. A charity day is also awarded which you can do individually or usually as a team which is fun and for a good cause.
Yes
Arcadis is the hub of creativity and innovation. It allows me to progress everyday and be a better version of myself. I am able to develop my skills and expand my skill set with great support links and opportunities. They always make work engaging and put the people first which makes you feel recognised in such a large company.
I would always say put your best self forward, ask lots of questions as you can never have all the information. Embrace the application process as it has lots of fun steps and gives you a taster of what working with arcadis will be like. And, never give up, you're always going to have support to continue to grow.
