  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a quantity surveyor i work in costing construction works. I measure drawings to then put these measures into cost plans in order to get total costs for the projects im working on. I also attend a site in Leicester two days a week where i walk round and observe what is going on.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt and developed many new skills. I feel as though my team work and collaboration skills have certainly improved as i work in a team on a day to day basis. I also think ive developed a wider range of knowledge of construction in my 5 months working here.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say i am certainly really enjoying my programme. The balance of four working days combined with one day of university study a week works really well, with a nice mix of learning in the work place, on site and also academically through my university studies which i am also enjoying.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think my programme is very well organised. I have multiple people from the university who i can contact for help, such as the lecturers and my direct officer. I also have an apprenticeships team who welcomed me into the process as well as my actual day to day team that i work with directly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say i receive a lot of support from my employer. The structure of the team that i work in is very good at ensuring everyone is always feeling supported both in and out of work. I have regular weekly meetings with my line manager where she checks everything is going okay.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. There are many different support areas where i can ask questions on the virtual learning website. As well as this i can contact my student support officer with any questions i have and she always helps me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the process of achieving my qualification has helped me to perform better in my role as the course directly links to my working role. As well as this it has also helped me in terms of meeting deadlines, making sure assignments are submitted on time helps me be punctual in the workplace.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Because i have only recently started, i havent done that much in terms of extra curricular activities as of yet. One thing i have done is take the responsibility of leading health and safety talks in team meetings. This consists of making and doing a presentation on health and safety to my team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Arcadis to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • From top to bottom the company is really good. It is full of amazing people and amazing opportunities. I feel as though i settled in so quickly and am developing not only as a surveyor but also as a person every single day i work here, i honestly really like it here.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arcadis?
  • The main tip is be yourself. Be confident in who you are and what you know and back yourself to get the job. Look into the companies main values and see if they align with your own personal values, because at Arcadis values are really important to everyone in the business.
