  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My dad to day role is calling into schools and wanting to speak with IT Managers. I want to make sure they are aware of who Softcat are, an introduction to who I am, and also to make sure I cover what areas of IT I & Softcat can cover which is all areas. I will also speak with all our partners and work with them to make sure every bit of business comes to me at Softcat. Building that relationship with them allows us to bring them projects from schools and vice versa. I speak with accounts/ schools who potentially already work with Softcat so the business is repetitive and helps me hit targets and also cold accounts with past softcat business but no business has been settled.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I developed way more organized and developed my communication skills. Not being afraid to go and speak to cold customers and also approaching our partners and introducing myself. This is so they know what I can do and I would want to understand what they can do. I have become alot more enthusiastic and motivated to want to go and make money for the company and also myself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the program. It led me right throughout the first 6 months and made me more confident in the role and uptaking the apprenticeship. It can be a bit much at points but also comes down to blocking out calendar time and making it manageable. Scheduling around the apprenticeship made this easier to work with them and importantly achieve a good grade at the end of it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is very well structured. 3 Projects are set out and you are given a healthy deadline of 2-3 months to get this completed. There are training courses which you go and attend for a week and trains you on how to speak to customer and what needs to be done to get a cold account warm and what conversations to have.
