  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I facilitate returns for our customers and account managers. My job entails producing credit notes; booking Collections; Training new starts; supporting AMs, working with disti's and a lot more. I am also responsible for managing our CSInbox - ensuring SLA's are stuck to, and it's regular attention and support.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of communication skills. Working in a new team always has it's challenges; I have learnt to work with lots of different characters and build new relationships with people that I otherwise would have never met. My computer skills have also improved as I have worked with multiple new systems.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think our apprenticeship programme is a useful tool for young people looking to start a new career in IT/ Business adminstration. A lot of key business concepts and ideologies were included in the course; this gave apprentices a well rounded view of business as a whole. I was at an advance anyway given my previous qualifications.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course was well structured with the modules; they were easy to complete and we know what was expected to be done in between the development coach sessions. I do think that the in person sessions lacked structure and also lacked relevance at times - due to multiple factors within each.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gave me all the time I needed to complete the course. I would say we had more time than we need at times as I was easily able to keep on top of my apprenticeship course and job workload. I would say that I was at an advantage as I'd studied business before.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We had average support with our course. I do believe that improvements could be made to the online and in person coaching sessions. I felt comfortable with my work due to my previous knowledge from my qualifications. However I do know that some people struggled more and didn't find the work as easy.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I don't believe that the apprenticeship was too relevant to my role as it focused heavily on the wider aspects of a business - it was not tailored to a specific type of business, nor a team either. Going into the course with no experience might have made it more relevant for me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of communities and extra activities for us to do through my employer. I believe that there is a wide range of opportunities inside the company; as well as lots of events, parties, weekends away, in office events, competitions etc for us to do. There is multiple perks of the job.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Softcat to anyone young and enthusiastic about working. It's a great company to get involved in while young as the teams of people are all of a similar position - which makes for a very enthusiastic and passionate workforce. I would not recommend Remit to apprentices however.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • I would advise people to be enthusiastic and optimistic. I would say for them to take all opportunities given to them and also work as as hard as they can with what they do. You will be noticed for working hard and your feedback from colleagues should always be taken as a positive.
