Day to day I am required to complete tasks within my project, consisting of gathering requirements from stakeholders, elicitation of those requirements so that they are understood effectively, mapping out of understanding so that when it is presented to technical and non-technical teams, that all parties fully understand and standards can be met.
Due to my course being an apprenticeship my understanding before I received the role of a business analyst was very little, however due to my consistent training weekly and shadowing my manager who shows me new skills and techniques definitely expands my capacity of capability. existing communication skills have also been expanded upon a well as my confidence to speak to a wide range of people from different departments.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme because I have such a large support network around me who are always happy to help. I feel that if I didn't have the team I currently have around me to ask any wants or needs that I would struggle on my apprenticeship course. The apprenticeship course itself due to it shortening the length of the course they are trying to fit a large mount of information in a shot amount of time.
My apprenticeship programme is structured very strange this is due to the course being split into to assessment methods: my portfolio and the essay that is limited to 5000 words to summarise. the portfolio is the first thing we are required to complete whereas the 5000 word essay is required at the end. with the apprenticeship we receive training for the essay first even though it is scheduled after my portfolio
From c4 I receive more support than I could even put into words. Everyone is so willing to take an hour out of their day to explain an issue or a system I am not familiar with to ensure that I am aware of the current processes going on around us so that when I am required to work on my own project, I know what I am doing.
Support is always available from the training provider if we are confused however due to the notes already written on my portfolio piece, it is evident that I need to relate it back to current processes within c4 and the wider goals that channel 4 aim to achieve. Although the apprenticeship is supportive, I feel that they aren't able to relate it back to my business which is clearly lacking within my work so far.
The qualification in general looks amazing on my cv to say that I have that qualification in that specific area due to business analysts being highly sort in a lot of businesses. In my current role it is super supportive within working in my projects as I am able to see where I need to work on and different methods to communicate with stakeholders that I may not have thought of.
There are always activities to take part in whether that be 4women, 4diversity, 4inclusion. There is a support network in all aspects of the company and that is clear when you speak to many of the employees who say that channel 4 is the best company to work with, in which I would also have to agree!
Yes
Because it is the best company to work with. Although you know who your boss is and the organisational structure, the more influential figures don't assert their authority in a way where you no longer respect them, it gives a sense of equality and that all staff should be treated the same, no matter the position.
To take the application process seriously because you need to prove that you are the right candidate for the role. Explain why you should have this job over someone else and always let your true self shine through. Everyone is so lovely that if you have little respect for people then don't apply.
