From Monday to Thursday I work in the office with both my team and wider teams who are supporting us on tasks. Day to day I help monitor activity in parliament and circulate that information accordingly. I also help research/ generate information spreadsheets on various different topics from hospitality, budgeting and policy.
I've developed a low of skills here; research and communication being to most used and relied on. Also I've been able to really expand my knowledge on a wide variety of areas both within the media via Channel 4 and Government because of my role.
I have really enjoyed it so far. The people i have worked with especially those on the Policy and Public Affairs team are incredibly smart, welcoming, helpful and overall just lovely people to work with.
I think the program is structured well. There could be better communication between the Apprenticeship company and Channel 4 as I think sometimes its a little hard for the tasks to be relevant and therefore prove your learning the 'right' skills. However, my manager and my project leader have both been fantastic at working with me to make the experience as bets as possible and easy to manage.
I have received a great amount of support both from my wider team and my manager. At a certain point in the program I expressed I was struggling with certain aspects of the office because of neurodivergence and I was offered and helped to get in contact with Channel 4's wellbeing consultant who was fantastic during our conversation and after.
I receive a good amount of support - tasks are explained clearly and my instructor is always available to help if she can or offer advice/ guidance on where would be best to go. Everyone I have interacted with has been lovely and again very helpful.
I think it helps me reflect on my role - it sometimes feels simplistic to what I am actually doing day to day and I think often higher qualification should be offered because it would meld better with the role within Channel 4. However, like I said the positive of the simplistic approach is that I gives me time to reflect on what I have learned and solidify any pre existing knowledge.
Yes there a several groups like 4Mind etc and they do offer like comedy nights for example.
Yes
It is a well organised, good hearted organisation where you feel welcomed and able to work to your best because of the positive environment created.
Fundamentally, apprenticeships are about learning in a professional environment so show your excited to do that and expand your self whilst being a part of Channel 4 and what it stands for - emulate those values and use your past experience to show how you can continue to do so.
