I am electrically biased so my day to day work will involve producing CAD drawings, schedules, specifications and any other electrical documents. daily work will depend on who in the group needs me to help them as i could be helping with mechanical cad or setting up drawings to save colleagues time.
since i have worked here i have greatly progressed my CAD ability to be able to produce drawings to a high standard that can be sent out to our clients. i have also learnt how to write a specification on NBS which is a specifaction writing software. this will help me for when i am leading my own projects and have to write them myself.
i greatly enjoy both my work day to day role and my weekly university day as it provides me with the best of both worlds to learn on the job and take what i have learnt at university and apply it to my day to day role. i enjoy learning off of colleagues to greater my understanding of building services.
Whilst i am under my apprenticeship i attend university one day a week. for this current academic year this is a tuesday meaning that for the remaining weekdays i am either in the office working or working from home. this split is beneficial to me as i can learn new modules at uni whilst learning new processes during my work.
at troup by waters and anders there is a structure within the group which is produced to give every engineer the support that they need to be able to do their working role. I myself have a mentor who is on the verge of completing his apprenticeship and a line manager who is the electrical partner so i can learn a lot off of both of them.
i am no longer in contact with stegta as they were my training provider during the level 3 BTEC period of my apprenticeship. I am not sure if i have a new training provider or if it is the same as i have not heard from anyone telling me so.
this helps me greatly with my working role as i can take what i have learnt at university and understand how the processes work in my day to day role rather than aimlessly producing a drawing and not understanding how the services shown actually work. attending university improves this experience.
There are some events throughout the year that i have the option of attending. as a group we try to have an after work activity organised at least twice a year which helps to build a stronger relationship with my colleagues. there are also in house initiatives held by TB+a as cpds.
Yes
Troup bywaters is an enjoyable company to work at and they provide great care in helping you every step of the way through the apprenticeship journey. the group structures work to get the best out of you and it is good to get involved in a wide array of projects.
If i was to give advice to anyone apply to troup bywaters + anders then it would be to take time during the beginning to actually learn what you are doing rather than just doing a cad drawing ask the engineer who gave you it to explain what the services are doing on the drawing.
