  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Using data manipulation software such as Alteryx and then visualising the data produced using Power BI/Tableau. A typical day will involve attending any meetings scheduled and primarily learning more about how to use Alteryx/Power Bi and studying for qualifications, such as the Alteryx Advanced certification. I will finish by completing my timesheet for the day, stating how many hours I have worked

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use new software called Alteryx and became certified in both the micro credentials and the core exams online. I am currently studying to take the advanced. I have also learned how to use data visualisation software such as Power BI and Tableau by completing courses on both. Learning how to use this software has also helped develop my problem solving skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is potentially the best format that exists for a degree apprentice. The format of work/uni ration means that we spend 1 semester at university and 1 semester on placement, and receive full university holiday, as well as getting paid annually. Furthermore, the team I have been placed in, as well as the overall work environment is outstanding and I would recommend PwC to anyone

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is relatively well structured, and it is clear that the Tech Degree Apprenticeship team are aware of what they are doing and how they want to execute their plans, however, there are a couple of communication errors between the team and other areas in PwC which have lead to an impression of less organisation. This is likely due to being the very first cohort of London Apprentices, as well as being the first to follow the semester on, semester off working style, and as such is very understandable.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are multiple buddies assigned to each person. There is an optional buddy assigned to you at university, as well as a Line of Service buddy and a Tech Degree Apprenticeship buddy. This allows me to ask for help on day to day tasks, as well as Apprenticeship specific tasks. There is also a monthly career development meeting with my career coach, and a quarterly apprenticeship meeting to further assist me

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is adequate support from the university whilst working towards my degree. There are plenty of time slots available after a lecture to speak to and ask the lecture about any queries. However, whilst on placement, we have had little communication with a lecturer who's module has an assessment based on interactions at placement. We have had no further information regarding this and the university liaison has had to chase up the lecturer

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The modules taught by the university are relatively applicable to on the job interactions. There was a basics programming course which was useful for students who had never coded, as well as a data analytics modules which was useful to better understand analytical methods. There were a couple of modules which were less applicable, but likely dependent on the team which a TDA is placed into, such as an essay module, and an object orientated module

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of Extra-curricular activities such as after work drinks, lunch with the team, and a bi-monthly social with everyone from tax. There is also the ability to start your own social club, such as the suggested chess club. However, it is unlike university as there is a lot more work required to find/participate in a more personal social, to be expected from a large company like PwC

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture at PwC is magnificent. There is a great sense of family in the team that you work in, there is flexible working hours dependent on your personal needs, there is a clear pathway to upskilling and moving your career forward than in most other companies that I'm aware of, and the pay is decent for an apprentice. There is also a feeling that if you need help, then you can ask and it won't be judged

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Be able to demonstrate the core values of PwC (Act with Integrity, make a difference, care, work together, and reimagine the possible). Be yourself in the interviews. I would recommend preparing examples of how you follow the values as well as demonstrating working as a team, taking ownership, being able to balance multiple activities at once (e.g doing an extra-curricular), showing leadership, and having a passion about something (can be linked to an extra-curricular)
