As a tech degree apprentice (specialising in the Data Analytics Pathway) I conduct daily data analysis using a variety of softwares such as Microsoft Excel, Alteryx, Power Query etc. However, my learning and development isn't restricted to this as in my spare time I tend to upskill myself in Python, using the abundant resources provided by my employer.
Definitely, I have learnt how to navigate many new softwares to which I had no prior knowledge. My employer also provides many additional training and development resources to further build on my skills. These skills have even proved effective outside of my day to day work - using Excel to create spreadsheets and format information.
I would say I highly enjoy my programme and could not advocate for a degree apprenticeship for those leaving college any more. An opportunity to receive a salary as well as a Level 6 degree qualification (that is funded). Not mentioning the invaluable skills you gain from being in a professional environment at such a young age.
It is split in the ratio of 80% Work and 20% Study. Each week we have allocated time to conduct any educational related work and we have a set of weekly blocks throughout the year, where we undertake University modules related to our chosen pathway - which will allow us to develop through the programme.
The support from the employer is second to none. We receive great support from everybody in our teams as well as a designated career coach, who we work with to monitor our goals and progression throughout the company. There are also specific departments and personnel who handle any queries and concerns you may have.
We receive ample support, the programme can be intense however, this is expected - we are allocated a skills coach who is responsible for guiding us along the programme and ensuring our well-being as well as our work and completion of modules is up to the expected standards. Overall we receive good support.
It is difficult to fully comment on this as I have yet to complete the majority of the modules and the skills required for my role are ever changing. However, the qualification does well in establishing the fundamental tech skills that may be required in the majority of tech based roles.
Yes, at work there are many social events regularly - whether that be between networks or teams at work. They also try to be as inclusive as possible and cater to everybody's needs. There are networks for almost anything you can think of - there are often events held and great knowledge shared between coworkers.
Yes
A really well established support system - provides many opportunities for development. Very inclusive and flexible working environment. Focuses on genuinely providing value where possible. The experience you can gain from a company like PwC is immense and this will translate to any other workplace in the future. Definitely would recommend.
Consider whether PwC's values resonate with you firstly and then how you can incorporate and display these values throughout the application process. You only have a short time to show what you provide to the company - so conduct the appropriate research, PwC provide information on their website. Ensure to articulate yourself well and most importantly be yourself.
