As a manager in B&Q i have many tasks and responsibilities. I have to make sure then store is safe for both our customers and colleagues at all times so no one gets hurt. I have a team to manage making sure we deliver high customer service and that they are able to get anything they need for their project or help.
When doing the apprenticeship i learnt a little more about the legal side and what I have to do as a manager to make sure we are doing this at all times in store when it comes to pricing and advertising. I also got to learn more about the rights the customer has when buying products.
I really enjoyed the level 3 programme. Having the help of both my trainer and unit manager made doing this course a lot easier. I found finding the information i needed rewarding and interesting. Doing this has made me want to look at further course I'm able to do to learn more about myself.
I felt the level 3 programme was well organised and planned out. My trainer made sure that I had all the paper work I needed to start and finish my work. He kept me on track and made sure I knew what questions I was to work on next and anything I've missed when doing this.
I felt I receive a great about of support for my employers and my management team in store. I was able to speak with both my unit manager and my deputy manager and get any advice or help I needed. They all spend time with me when my trainer was in to make sure they knew what was needed from them next.
My training provider gave me all the support I needed. I knew at anytime I could pick up the phone or email for any questions or support I needed when doing this course. They made sure they planed or our meetings out so I knew when I saw them next and new what was needed from me.
I feel the course I need has made me a better manager in a few ways. I know understand more about the customer and what I can do for them and the rights they have when buying a product from us. I also learnt more about how to coach my team and give them any information they might need.
Yes there are activities you can get involved in within our store. We have the peoples forum you are able to apply for. There is also a health and safety committee and a fund raising committee within out store if you wanted to take part in that. We also try to do team events outside of work once every 3 months to keep the team happy and together.
Yes
B&Q is a great place to work and would tell anyone this. Its like working for a little family and everyone here is very happy and friendly. We are a busy store and each day is different making it a great place to work. We are paving the way for a bright future and its great to be part of.
I would say always be yourself. B&Q is a very welcoming and diverse company and it doesn't matter you on your DIY skills or knowledge when applying. You should have some passion for customer service and wanting to help someone build their dream project from start to finish.
