Auditing involves checking figures that appear in a company's financial statements (eg revenue, cost of sales, cash etc.). To do this, I work amongst a team. The team consists of people from my grade all the way up to Partners/Directors. Daily tasks include selecting samples to verify with the client, as well as many conversations with the team and client.
I've learned a great deal about the accounting and audit industry whilst also gaining insights into clients' business and sectors. I have also developed a lot of technical skills by using the tech we have available within audit that makes the role more efficient. Another key skill developed are interpersonal skills, as I am constantly changing teams and clients.
The work and studying is intense and can become stressful, however the people I work with make it an enjoyable experience as the workplace is a great environment to be in. The role isn't overly technically challenging however tight deadlines means it keeps me engaged and eager to learn new ways of working.
It's very well structured. I know well ahead of time the dates for exams and even what clients i am booked to. This makes it easier to plan ahead of time for your future. The promotion structure is very clear, with promotions based on time and exam passes up until the manager promotion which is based on job performance.
There is a lot of coaching from my peers and seniors in regards to the job itself. IN terms of exam support, PwC dont get involed in any of the delivery of material however do arrange the college sessions for us at Kaplan. Depending on the manager, most will let me finish on time when i have exams approaching so i can revise in the evenings.
Kaplan are very good at delivering our training. However, our college time is slighlty less than some other firms offer. Much of the studying is done in evenings and weekends. Many of the modules are delivered online via pre recorded videos, but the more challenging ones are done in-person. They also support us with remote support over weekends (can ask questions via a chat to a tutor)
The qualification allows me to work and understand more complex areas of the audits. It also helps a lot when communicating with clients as they can often use technical jargon that I wouldn't know without the exam tuition. However, there are still many tasks that have no or little relation to the exams, and exams that have no relation to work.
There are plenty of these. Most jobs will have a 'debrief' once signed off which will usually include going for dinner with the team and/or an activity like go-karting, lazer tag etc.. There are also annual events to celebrate seasons and holidays (eg summer and christmas parties). There's also many societies and sports teams to join similar to uni.
