  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role currently consists of working on an IFRS 17 project which is a new accounting standard. The client has chosen to implement this new standard and we are assisting them with the implementation of this standard and ensuring that their financial statements conform to this standard that has been effective as of 2023.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills in terms of reading financial statements and what each component stands for exactly. The project is super technical however my reading up on this new standard and looking at the client's situation, I am able to enhance my own knowledge of this new standard.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have not enjoyed my programme as much as I could've. This has been down to 2 particular reasons. The first one is the global pandemic which limited learning opportunities and kept everyone stuck indoors. The second is the lack of work that has been apparant throughout the firm.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme leaders and resourcing managers in my opinion are atrocious. We were the first pilot year and quite frankly they have no idea what they are doing. They have winged the entire programme with little thought on how this will impact the cohort's development. They needed numbers and that's what they've prioritised.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has provided an immense amount of support in terms of study leave and ensuring that we have sufficient ollege and self-study days to ensure that we are able to prepare enough to pass the difficult exams which the ACA has. It is a testing programme but PwC were great

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan who was my training provider were amazing. The quality of teachers at this instiutiton is next to none. They truly do make learning a fun experience and to a great extent, I do miss being in college as I learnt an immense amount allowing me to be in the position which I am in today.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification definitily helps me perform better in my role because without it, i would not be able to read and make sense of fianncial statements and this is a core part of the job. Without this, I would not be able to add much value to the engagement so yeah.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are extra curricular acitiites such as football which is something collegages organise. There are relgiisou events which take place. There are also professional networking events which partners and direcotrs in my team enocurage us to attend so I would definitely say PwC do a great job of ensuring there is a sufficinet amount.

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is one of the biggest professional firms in the world and the opportunities you get here are unmatched. The people you meet, the projects and clients you are able to work on and the learning opporuntiies are endless. it is truly a reflection of how much effort you put in and what you want out of it.
