My day -to-day role involves audit work on different clients, mainly working on their year end accounts, giving assurance that the annual report they create is an accurate reflection of their financial year. This includes testing individual FSLI's (Financial Statement Line Item) to gain comfort over the financial statement as a whole.
Yes lots of new skills, the main ones being accounting, assurance, tax and law and business management through the official learning pathway but also others such as project management, time management, communication, active listening and building relationships. The latter are more developed during the engagement work itself, although there are company provided training that covers these topics as well.
I am really enjoying the programme so far. It is very fast-paced and engaging which makes it interesting and a good challenge. The office environment is very friendly and supportive, which supports my want to develop and do my best work. I am very happy that I decided to apply for this programme.
The formal coursework and qualification aspect of the programme is well structured. Initially we were given a 6 month overview of what was coming up (classes, self-managed learning days, exams etc), although we can now see this up to 12 months in advance via our resourcing platform which is great for forward planning.
I think my employer is very good at providing support, both to me individually and to our cohort as a whole. There are plenty of ways to ask for support, from many different avenues, such as Talent Coach, Career Coach, engagement manager, engagement leader and peer group manager, as well as colleagues who are a stage ahead of me.
I think there is lots of support available from our training provider. Classroom live teaching, email support, online tutor support, as well as our own Talent coaches who are available at anytime to support with the learning aspect of the programme. Talent coaches have regular 6 weekly catch-ups as well.
The qualification itself integral to success in accountancy and working in audit so it helps me perform better in so many ways. I would say the key ways it does this are through the key learning and theory behind the audit work, that allows me to apply that theory to real life problems, is probably the most important.
There seem to be plenty of opportunities to get involved in social events, both locally and nationally. Some of the events our office have held include, Summer Party, Christmas Party, World Cup viewing parties, Quiz Night, Table Pool tournament, table tennis tournament. National events are a bit harder to get involved in, as they are usually in the bigger offices so need to travel.
Yes
I would recommend PwC to anyone who is looking to be challenged and finds satisfaction in solving complex problems whilst helping people reach their full potential. It is a friendly and open company, who celebrate diversity and the perspectives that brings. I have zero regrets about starting this career journey with PwC.
Don't rush the application process, take your time and really think about why you want to work in audit as a career and why you would be a good fit for PwC. Take time to look over the careers website as there is a lot of information on there that will help.
