My day to day role involves touring artwork from London and Paris to our offices that are worldwide. This includes Hong Kong, New York, Taipei, and Geneva for example. In my role I help organise shipping, exhibitions, lot cards, potential viewing dates, etc. I also get to hang lot cards up when we have tours incoming from our other offices.
New skills that I have learnt whilst on my apprenticeship include learning how to formally address different stakeholders as well as how to network. I also think that my apprenticeship has helped improve my confidence. In my role I dived straight in to whatever the rest of my team were working on at the time, and therefore this allowed me to pick new skills up very quickly.
I thoroughly enjoy each aspect of my apprenticeship, I think it is extremely exciting working in a business like Christie's as it is everchanging and you always get to see new art. The fact that overnight our whole office is transformed into a new view is one of the most exciting parts of the job.
I would say that my programme is very well supported. My company understands that apprentices have to balance their day-to-day work with their apprentice work. Therefore, we are allowed to take a day dedicated to our studies or half day. You can structure it with whatever works best for you.
I receive more than enough support from my employer. They help throughout the programme and are always around if you have any questions or queries. They also encourage all employees to shadow different departments, this allows you to gain expertise in different jobs other than your own, which is very beneficial in order to understand the business as a whole.
My training provider provides support by organising monthly one on one catch ups in order to answer any questions and provide additional support. Towards the end of my apprenticeship when completing my exams they will provide me with more one on ones and further practice sessions, so that I am thoroughly prepared.
I believe that from modules I learn in my qualification I can use them to better my day to day work. For example, a module is stakeholder communications, and this is definitely a part of my working role. Therefore, I can use the skills I have learnt when communicating with my stakeholders.
Yes, at my work we have apprentice socials that are organised by our HR team. This means that my whole cohort of apprentices can get together and talk about our roles and socialize outside of the work environment. We also have the chance to join gallery walkthroughs or talks from our more senior colleagues which help us to improve our network.
Yes
I would definitely recommend Christie's to a friend for a number of reasons. One would be how friendly and welcoming everyone throughout the business is, as well as the trainings that are provided for us which can help with our furtive and gaining expertise. I also think Christie's allows you to integrate with people from all over the network, allowing you to meet more senior colleagues.
One tip I would give someone when applying to Christie's is to be confident in themselves and to have prior knowledge of what Christie's is about and hat it does as a business. I would also say that there are many departments, and you do not have to be a specialist in rt to apply for roles here.
