  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is permanently within the Birmingham development team and more specifically I am focusing on commercial projects. Everyday varies however it can include completing development appraisals, conducting key research for large scale projects and liaising with clients both in the public and private sector. The role has given me a lot of responsibility as there are usually key deadlines to be met.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within my role I have learnt an abundance of new skills. Despite only being in my apprenticeship for 6 months, I have learnt and gained so much knowledge which I had never previously had. Specifically, this is the day to day tasks which includes using excel (which I had no previous experience with) , using Argus (a software for development appraisals) and searching for comparables which is key for some projects. I have also developed some of my existing skills which are communicating, particularly with clients and having resilience which is key when there are multiple tasks to complete.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Going into my apprenticeship, I had an overview of the job role but I could of never expected it to be what it is. My collogues are extremely supportive both within my professional work and studies. To summarise, I thoroughly enjoy my job and look forward to working each day and seeing what it brings.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structed and gives me 20% off the job training, which for me is one day a week. Within this time, I receive no pressure to complete professional work which is essential from an employer as it is key you receive the 20% off the job. On this day, I complete all the set tasks completed by my university along with preparing for module assignments/exams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider provides endless support. Along with all the learning tools they provide, i.e reading materials and quizzes, I also have meetings with my apprenticeship outcomes officer every 12 weeks which is someone who is there as a point of contact and support to help me throughout my studies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification and professional role go hand in hand. The learning I am completing with my training provider expands my knowledge for tasks I will be completing in work which helps me to complete them to the best of my ability. The course I am completing is specifically designed for my job role so they work very well together and supporting me to the best of my ability.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many extra-curricular activities to get involved with from learning seminars which grow your knowledge of the outside market and networking events to meet other young professionals. Savills also have their own sports teams which complete with other companies within the industry and we host our own networking events to meet other members of the company from different locations and offices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I couldn't recommend Savills anymore due to the support I have received. My colleagues have been extremely supportive and friendly from the moment I joined providing me with adequate and appropriate work. The structure of my apprenticeship is very well formed with my 20% off the job which for me is studying towards a degree. An apprenticeship with Savills is truly one of the best decisions you could make as you are studying whilst gaining hands on experience with one of the best market-leading companies.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
  • My advice for applying to Savills is to be honest about your aspirations and qualities to be as authentic as possible. Also, do your research on the company as this will wow your interviewers! Be confident but do not over do it as you want to remain modest. Finally, make yourself stand out whether this be in the application or interview stage to make yourself sound different.
