My role as a Team leader is very varied, from assisting and guiding customers to answering Duty calls and doing rota's, being there for my team and guiding and supporting not only my team but the store team. I am also a fire champion and first aider, so have duties to carry out when a first aider is required and if fire alarm is activated. I have daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly checks to carry out to ensure we are operating a safe store and within the policies and processes
I have learned so much new skills but also developed my existing skills. My confidence has built up, so much so that i have completed two apprenticeships, my communication has also improved and i have built up my knowledge in various areas, such as policies and processes, why we do things and how it affects the customer journey as well the business.
I love learning! i thoroughly enjoy it, don't get me wrong it is hard work and can be stressful at times. However with the right support network and guidance it is definitely enjoyable. as a single mum, working full time and doing an apprenticeship it is definitely hard with a lot of juggling, but would do another one if i could.
I found the programme really well organised and structured and also find that it helps you be organised and structured too, which you definitely need to be when doing an apprenticeship. The units are in a good structured order and relevant to the learning and my job role too, so didn't ever feel like it wasn't relevant.
My employer was fantastic! From store level right up to board level! i had a mentor in store, but the whole Management team were great and supportive and i knew i could approach any of them if and when needed. The UM of my store was also very supportive, checking in on me and asking if i had any questions or needed support. Our company really gets behind the Apprenticeships, which i think is great.
The training provider is great, always on hand for any questions or guidance when needed. Dropping an email and always had a really quick response. Even if they are busy , they will reply with an email to advise so and let you know when they will be able to get back to you.
My qualification has made a massive difference to me, in my role and also myself as a person. I have far more confidence in general, but also in my role, I have built up knowledge on various areas, but also as an apprentice and on apprenticeships, which i am now the store apprenticeship champion.
There is a few, but i am a single mum to a 6yr old and work fulltime, so i am unable to commit to anything outside work. That's another reason i really enjoyed the apprenticeship as i was able to do this at home too, once little on was in bed,
Yes
I absolutely love my role and my store. The people, the job and the opportunities it has given me and hopefully continue to give me. My store is a very busy and dynamic store as we are a large, top 35 store and a digital hub store so each day is very varied and fast paced.
Be you! grab opportunities that you can and have passion and care in all that you do, The company is good to work for and gives you alot of opportunities if you are looking to progress. B&Q can be more than a job, it can be a career. But regardless if you are just looking for a job , still take passion and care in all of your role.
