My day-to-day role changes all the time. No two days are the same. Mainly my role includes conducting tasks such as: - Medical record chasing - Finding experts for cases and writing letters to them - Setting up the funding for client's - Going on our new enquiry rota, which means we read through cases that have come through on the day- we may call the client's for more information
I have learnt many new skills and developed a various amount of existing skills. For example: - I have developed my communication skills - I have developed my reading and writing skills (writing several different letters) - I have learnt new IT skills (getting used to new software) - I have learnt the legal processes that a case goes through before reaching an agreement
The programme is great. Being able to do work that impacts a case and helps to develop it is so great. Being relied upon by other members of your team to help is really rewarding also, as you don't expect that kind of responsibility that early, but everyone is wanting you to develop as well as you can.
The programme is structured really well. We get 1 study day per week, which allows us to attend webinars and study, without being worried that you have other work to do. The way we are allocated free time for studying, has really played a part in this being a stress-free process.
I enjoy the programme massively. The amount of support you receive, not just from other colleagues but the Early Careers team is great. We have group monthly meetings, where we catch up and discuss any issues we may have. It is also great because so many people in Irwin Mitchell have gone down the apprenticeship route, which means if you are ever stuck or worrying about your next steps, you always have someone to talk to.
Again, like above, you constantly receive support. Not just from colleagues but the Early Careers team. All the supervisors in my team are also super supportive and are happy to help whenever you need it. They allow you to attend all the webinars and meetings even if they are not on your scheduled Study day. They also have monthly meetings with you, to check in and discuss any issues you may be having.
Understanding the legal process and everything that has to occur in a case, really helps with my day-to-day work. It means you can begin to understand all the legal lingo and help out more on your colleagues' cases. You can also then offer your opinion on cases, as you have an understanding.
At Irwin Mitchell, they are big on social events and team bonding. There is always something in the calendar, whether that is drinks after work or bake sales. If you are apart of the Early Careers process, you will also be included in many events that they provide. On the other side, we are also given nay opportunities to attend webinar's from outside IM. This further develops knowledge about specific problems and issues we may face in cases.

Irwin Mitchell is a great company to work for. They offer a flexible-working policy, which allows colleagues to work flexibly to fit around their lives. All staff members at Irwin Mitchell are extremely friendly and are always happy to help. They offer some amazing opportunities, such as two Volunteer days a year.
Don't worry! Irwin Mitchell's application process is really stress-free, unlike others. Just be yourself and be passionate. Remember, Irwin Mitchell are all about the 'Human Touch', which means the company don't want robots, they want real people, with feelings and empathy to work for them. Just enjoy the process.
