  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is mainly based within the Direct Tax team of E.ON. My roles and responsibilities are mainly focused around the corporation tax workflow. This would usually involved computing and report tax numbers at the year-end, statutory accounts and final computation stages. In addition, assistance is provided to indirect colleague on indirect tax manners such as CIS and CCL reporting. I would also be involved with projects such a R&D and group simplification measures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Firstly, by learning the knowledge in my studies, I have been able to practically implement that knowledge into my day to day responsibilities. Furthermore, softer skills such communication and organisational and time management skills have been enhanced from a practical point of view as I am empowered in the workplace to be responsible for my tasks and responsibilities.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think a lot of the planning and development is onerous on me. I would need to sit with my manager to review the goals and objectives that would be required to be met. I would have wished that there was an internal structure available in order to manage the apprenticeship progress.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • E.ON as a company have provided a lot of support from the onset in order to get me on the apprenticeship program. At the start, there was a hesitation as I already held a level 7, I could not enrol onto another level 7. However, with the support of my manager and the team, I was able to enrol for a level as I would acquiring new knowledge, skills and behaviours. As mentioned previously, I would wish that there was a structured internal program in place to monitor and support progress.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My learning provider is Kaplan Financial and they provide a lot of support towards the qualification. Material and learning are provided as well as question banks which are useful for exam revision. The courses are quite intense but the tutors and support staff support you really well during the learning stages.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification will help me to go above and beyond my role. The learning will provide me with in depth knowledge of the tax matter involved which will help me to think further about the consequences of certain transactions. This will in turn help aid effective business decision making on project appraisal work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. There are many opportunities to get involved with extra curricular activities in the workplace. There teams such as social, well-being, charity, empowerment, etc that are available to join within the wider team. Being part of these wider teams, helps to aid networking by getting to know other individuals and also helps skill development for any projects that they may be involved with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Yes I would definitely recommend a friend to apply to E.ON for a job. The working environment is one of the best that I have experienced in my past history. There are a lot of people that have a vast amount of knowledge that you can learn from. The workplace has adapted well to the post covid modern way of working.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • The advice I would give to other applying for a role within E.ON is that be yourself in the interview. The company will want to invest in you and not someone that you are trying to be. Research current issues that the company is facing and how that will impact the activities of the team that you are applying to.
