I work as a data analyst with the focus being on Power BI which means I work mostly with Power BI. I work on dashboards and work through requirements that are set up for me as tasks by my manager or colleague as well s working directly with stakeholders.
Yes, everything I have learnt about data analysis came from the apprenticeship as I didn't have any prior knowledge. From the basics to having a good understanding of power BI and SQL.
I really enjoy the challenge and having something new to work on everything. Some things seem straight forward until you start working on them and then you realise it requires more work than anticipated and I like knowing that I was the one who solved the problem.
Its really well organised. I Knew from day one as to what was expected of me and when, so there would be no surprises and I know what KPIs I need to be working on at all times.
I receive full support from my employers, there are always multiple people available to answer any questions I may have.
Similar to my employer QA also provides plenty of support. I receive comments and feedback quickly.
It enables me to understand the work better. I do feel like there was much I had to learn myself but those same topics were then taught by QA in a more comprehensive manner, however this was done at a later stage and I would have benefitted from learning those concepts earlier on in the apprenticeship.
Yes lots of extra-curricular activities. We have this Early Careers programme where all apprentices and graduates are followed in their careers for the first 2 years while they're at Balfour Beatty. During this time they take part in a residential programme and networking events including an initial introduction event.
Yes
They have been very welcoming, they provided lots of support and time to understand the role and help throughout the journey.
Be confident, be bold and know that you bring value to the company. Do not be afraid to ask questions and take your time, don't rush into anything. And that this is the best thing that could happen to you.
