In my role I am required to take on mechanical engineering tasks to maintain a range of plant and equipment. This could involve completely swapping the machinery or taking it back to the workshop and repairing it ready to be refitted. This helps to keep the site and plant running efficiently.
I have learnt a lot of new skills in this job role and also improved my knowledge of the equipment that we are using on a daily basis. I am also enhancing existing skills. Some new skills that I have developed have included the use of a range of tools that I had never used before.
I am really enjoying the programme and everything involved, my workplace is a great environment to learn and take everything in. My college is very well run and everything is tailored to helping all the students out and give us as much knowledge as we need to know to help us progress
The course is very well structured and organised, the college days in which we go to Basingstoke are really good and we make good progress with our work, and the online lessons are also very well run and make it easy to pick up all the information we need for the course.
My employer gives me all the support that I need, this includes going on training courses to help with my understanding of how the sites runs and all aspects of health and safety required. And this also includes allowing me time to do any work that is required for college.
My training provider is very good in supporting me through the course and providing me with all the information that is needed to get through the course and achieve the qualification. They answer all of my questions and help me to understand all aspects in the practical side and the theory.
I feel the the qualification helps me to perform better in my role by giving me brilliant training on the practical and theory side of my job role, this helps me to understand and complete tasks on site which then allows me to understand the task better in a site environment.
There are a lot of activities and networks to get involved with at Thames water, I personally don’t get involved much in these networks, however it is good to know that there is a range of networks available for me to use if I did ever want to get into one.
Yes
Thames water have really helped me when starting this role by answering all of my questions and helping where necessary, for example for college they help me out with a hotel room close to the college to go to the night before so I don’t have to travel in the morning during rush hour and risk being late.
Some advice I would give to anyone that is applying for Thames water is to ask as many question as you want as Thames always promote that there are no dumb questions and are always happy to answer any questions which can help, this has been very useful for me when starting me job role.
