  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Cost Consultancy Apprentice I spend my day shadowing members of my team as well as carrying out roles throughout the life cycle of projects including: chairing meetings, using BIM/CostX/CAD to measure buildings, updating trackers, communicating with project stakeholders, conducting monthly valuations, processing interim payments, completing cost forecasts/estimates, managing change/variations and completing cost reports.

  • I enjoy getting to know the job role more as the month's have gone by as well as picking up more technical tasks.

  • It's well organised via the Mace Emerging talent team who provide an excellent line of communication between themselves and the apprentices.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a lot of support from the emerging talent team, my line-manager, senior-manager and colleagues in ensuring I am up-to-date with the project's I'm working on and generally getting me involved with projects.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • They aim to ensure that I understand the fundamentals of cost consultancy/quantity surveying from building technology all the way to measuring and costing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are several opportunities to get involved in at work from small office gatherings/teams to apprentice-wide focus groups.
