I am a welder which is a great job as it allows you to adapt my skills whilst also learn general knowledge in the meantime. On a day to day basis, I would put on my PPE and then begin work, whilst having 3 breaks each day, at the end of every work period I would clean my area so it is safe for the next working day. Once a week I will have theory days which consist of, 3 different topics in the morning and then 1 specific topic (welding) in the afternoon.
I have learnt a variety of new skills, these skills go from hand skills to actual role based skills, for example I have learnt all welding techniques I could possibly use and this allows me to be the best welder I can be at this present moment. I have also developed my skills and even knowledge of the existing welding knowledge I had already known.
I fully enjoy my programme as it allows me to have fun learning new skills, whilst getting paid in the meantime. As a 16 year old I would definitely recommend this type of work as it is fun, enjoyable and a good introduction to the working world. This programme allows me to improve my skills, knowledge and behaviours and helps me achieve my end goal that I am hoping to reach.
My programme is well structured and has a great organisation, this really helps as a first year apprentice as it allows me to understand what is going to be happening regarding the fact it is my first year. The programme is structured to help me and other apprentices succeed in the trades we are wanting to do.
My employee gives me huge support at work and even at home, this ranges from help inside of the workplace to online sessions for things such as mental well-being which helps very much. The employer helps a huge amount and allows me to work towards my end goal without any stress.
My training provider gives me huge amounts of support when working towards my qualification and they do not let anybody fail or give up, they guide me in the correct direction even if that’s in a bad situation or good. This is beneficial for me as I am a 16 year old male who has all of a sudden introduced myself to the working environment.
My qualification, coming from my learning provider, helps me perform extremely better as they keep pushing me to do better every day, this makes me more of a resilient person and allows me to be the best person I can be, they also make you feel very comfortable meaning when performing my role I can do it correctly and efficiently.
Yes, there are many extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. These can involve days out to the dockyard for a tour and many more cool and fun activities. These keep me motivated and keen to stay on the apprenticeship whilst also giving me extra knowledge in the meantime.
Yes
I would recommend Babcock to a friend because they are a huge worldwide successful company who can change a person into a highway skilled successful person. The pay is more than fair for an apprentice and as the programme goes on it gets even better. Babcock allow you to feel like you are apart of a team and brings the best out of their workers. I would highest recommend.
When applying for babcock, I would start by researching the company and learning about them as this will give you a good understanding of what they do and why they are such a big and successful company. I would also recommend thinking of a project to make as this will be needed if you were successfully able to get into the interview stage.
