  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Managing Sub-Contractors, keeping on top of change from the client and/or Sub-Contractors. Payments and valuations of works complete. Forecasting monthly for client and internal reports (CVR). I work closely with other construction professionals such as design managers, project managers, planners and MEP managers to ensure my packages are managed properly both commercially but also on an operations side of things too.

The colleagues are supportive of my development which makes for a great environment to be working in on a day to day basis. • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As mentioned in my previous point, it is very well structured and there is a lot of support in place to guide apprentices and graduates at Mace. The Mace Emerging Talent team organise frequent training sessions, focused on the development of apprentices - these are very beneficial for anyone new to the industry.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university I go to is good and I can tell that they want all students to succeed and pass the course with flying colours. The university offers time slots to speak with your lecturers if you have any queries or concerns which is useful. Support on completing the MRICS is also provided through workshops on MS Teams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It certainly covers the fundamental aspects of being a commercial manager / quantity surveyor. This provides me with confidence that I am getting the adequate exposure to the necessary educational areas. I learn about certain aspects which are not covered by my day job which is very beneficial to me and other students.
