Managing Sub-Contractors, keeping on top of change from the client and/or Sub-Contractors. Payments and valuations of works complete. Forecasting monthly for client and internal reports (CVR). I work closely with other construction professionals such as design managers, project managers, planners and MEP managers to ensure my packages are managed properly both commercially but also on an operations side of things too.
Yes, I have improved many skills such a mathematics, team working skills, professionalism, and my understanding of construction methods and technical knowledge. I have also improved my abilities in being articulate, being able to write detailed emails which are also easy to understand and write reports which outline the focus and results of the report.
Very much so. The programme is well organised, well structured and allows for growth in all of the necessary areas. The colleagues are supportive of my development which makes for a great environment to be working in on a day to day basis. I feel that I am becoming more competent over the years and can see many different options for further development.
As mentioned in my previous point, it is very well structured and there is a lot of support in place to guide apprentices and graduates at Mace. The Mace Emerging Talent team organise frequent training sessions, focused on the development of apprentices - these are very beneficial for anyone new to the industry.
A lot. Mace have been very supportive of me, my role and my studies. Not only are Mace funding my course but also genuinely want me to succeed. There are plenty of resources available which have been provided by Mace to support us with our studies and further training is always available if we wish to do it.
The university I go to is good and I can tell that they want all students to succeed and pass the course with flying colours. The university offers time slots to speak with your lecturers if you have any queries or concerns which is useful. Support on completing the MRICS is also provided through workshops on MS Teams.
It certainly covers the fundamental aspects of being a commercial manager / quantity surveyor. This provides me with confidence that I am getting the adequate exposure to the necessary educational areas. I learn about certain aspects which are not covered by my day job which is very beneficial to me and other students.
Yes, lots of team events such as meals out, golf days and charity football games. Depending on what you are interested in / how sociable you are, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities outside of work which you can take part in and get to know your colleagues better.
Yes
Mace is an excellent company to work for, especially as a company to start your career with. As mentioned within this review, I have received a lot of support which has guided me through my journey to becoming a commercial manager and i have thoroughly enjoyed the journey along the way.
Do research on Mace before applying or attending any interviews. Make sure that the company seems like a good match based on your interests and personality type. Ensure that you are keen, motivated and receptive to learning. Remember that there are many different roles which can be applied for as part of the Mace Apprenticeship Scheme so it would be a good idea to read up on them before you make a decision on which to apply for.
