Yes. My time here has allowed me to develop my professional and technical skills. The size of the company has given me exposure to all aspects of the role. I have had the opportunity to lead IT projects, interact with the team to gather reporting requirements, and be part of essential decisions such as recruitment. While the size of the company and the agile software development methods reduce exposure to more widely used tools and important development stages such as documentation, the knowledge from the degree with NTU provides a lot of this. Managers are invested in my personal development and offer support in taking additional training courses to develop my knowledge.
One of the best things about MinsterFB is the company culture and friendly atmosphere. Although there can be a great deal of pressure, as with any company, everyone is very understanding and open about this. In these early stages of my career I have been provided with great mentors whom I have learnt a lot from. I was provided with the space to learn and make mistakes. The managers I have personally dealt try their best to create a positive environment where people are working to live and not living to work. On the university side, I have had many negative experiences with NTU, however I don't want this to reflect on the employer. Changes in the course I was taking resulted in many changes, including my cohort. I have little social interaction at the university, much of the people on my course are much older or come in groups from their employers. Not my favourite part.
They are a small company who do their best. Their processes are always improving. The university do everything what they can to make juggling work and study as easy as possible. I would advise anyone looking to do a degree apprenticeship to be ready for some hard work.
As much as I ask for within reason. The nature of the role means that often things had to be delivered, despite clashes with coursework deadlines. This can cause intense periods.
Depends on the lecturer and module. The study workload has often been criticised as they underestimate the commitments of a full time job. Teaching delivery is intense, and must be kept on top of. Again, I don't want this to reflect on the employer.
A lot of what I am learning is not particularly relevant to my current role.
It is not very difficult to find others who have extra-curricular activities to get involved in outside work. There is a reading club and others have have attempted to start more social clubs. Teams sometimes meet up for drinks. Not much in the way of sports teams, or professional networking events.
Yes
Supportive environment particularly in the early stages of your career. Good people. If you are seeking a very technical career such as software engineering, you will have more exposure to widely used industry tools elsewhere.
I would say it is a very friendly workplace but to be aware that, it is a small business. This has its benefits and drawbacks.
