Supporting young people (16 to 18) care leavers to support themselves independently like cooking and cleaning and trying to get them to engage with us so they become sociable.
I really don’t feel that I’ve learned any new skills to be honest. There’s been a lack of training provided and a disappointing lack of contact with anyone who should perhaps be supporting me whilst at work. I only found out who my supervisor was yesterday and I’ve been here for five months.
I’ve enjoyed most of the work so far but not really known what to do so there hasn’t been any real engagement with young people like there should’ve been.
I’m feeling very overwhelmed about starting the course as it’s already asking me things that I don’t understand at all. I’m panicking about this as it seems I’m expected to just know automatically how to do it in a specific time frame but this doesn’t feel viable.
As mentioned above, I really don’t receive any support from my employer at all considering I’m alone with a young person for eighty hours every week and I’ve never met my team leader or any other colleagues. I’ve met my supervisor twice and spoken on the phone to them three times.
I’ve spoken to my tutor once over a video chat and have a scheduled meeting next week with her too, but it’s early days for the course so I’m not expecting much to be honest. I would maybe like to have a weekly meeting with her.
It’s too early to say. I haven’t even got past the initial stages of filling out the forms yet, but so far I’m going to take a guess that it could be of some use. It’s hard to say at this point.
There’s a weekly key worker forum online, but it’s just so we can talk with a training provider (in house) about work and what we’re happy with or unhappy with.
No
The lack of support has been unnerving and also the hours can be cut.
I’d tell new staff members who have just gone through all of the application stages and the interview stages to have some sort of backup.
