My role is as a Change Manager for a large Testing team. It requires me to estimate the effort and cost of incoming work for the team. My role further requires me to estimate how many people the team will need in each month for incoming work, which allows senior members to make new hire decisions. My role invovles a lot of communication with my team and senior members of the company.
My roles have made me develop proficency with many applications, such as excel (extending to learning VBA), Jira and other testing tools. It has also helped me develop futher my soft skills, including professionalism, networking and managing deadlines and expectations. CGI offers many opportunities to expand not only proffessional learning, but also personal, and sets up 'KnowHows' to help members manager work/life balance.
I really enjoy learning within a work enironment. The responsibility given to me encourages me to try, and my colleages have been very supportive. The environment at CGI is very welcoming, as there are a large range of netowrks and communities that offer support. The young professionals network is particularly good.
The program is fairly well structured, however within differnt Buisness Unit the structure vaires. With regards towards pay and promotion, the program is well structureed to support this. However the program is certain buisness units offer little opportunity for change of roles, without going through an internal applications process, which is not particularly tailored for junior employees.
My team has been very supportive every time I start a new role. Mt managers always aim to give me as much handover and training as possible, and has be very open towards being available if I need help. Most of the time, colleages are more than willing to help each other, particularly within the young professionals network.
My team is very supportive of the time I have to take off for University, and are alway willing to make accomodations. I feel like I could have used more support from Early Careers. However, most projects promote a budy and mentor system which can be really effective, particular within the projects where they offer mentor training.
I have not seen much benefit from my training provider in my work role. I feel that my role and my qualification do not align very well. Whilst my company does not offer much support or guidance in helping me gain expereince in required area, I have found that for the most part, my training provider is unorganised.
My company has an amazing social netwrok for extra curricular activties and sports. The network allows members to plan everts, which the company subsides for them, making it very affordable for us to do a wide range of activities, including wine tasting, indoor skiing, going to theatre and playing sports. My company's other networks (of which there are many), also hold many professional events.

Whilst I do not enjoy studing for my degree, the company environment is very welcoming, supportive and enjoyable. The company really promotes work/life balance which is hugely important to me, and is considerate of personal problems members face. The young professional community is really supportive and welcoming, and I have never felt like I am missing out on the 'university experience'.
For any one wanting to apply to CGI, I would recommend getting in touch with a current apprentice/grad via linkedin. Most young professionals at CGI are more than happy to support a potential new joiner. Aside from that, I would really research the company, try and understand the culture that exist in the company, and if you feel like you would fit in, show enthusiasm for what the company stands for (e.g. our values)
