  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an audit apprentice. I travel to different client sites on a weekly basis to help conduct the audit. I perform testing over certain aspects of the financial statements to ensure they are true and fair.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained in depth accounting knowledge through sitting my Level 3 and 4 AAT exams.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The hours are long and it can be stressful at times. However, there are plenty of opportunities to succeed within KPMG and having done an apprenticeship, there is no uni debt and I will be a fully qualified accountant by the end of my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured well but sometimes lacks the organisation from the training providers.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • KPMG give us study leave time whenever we have exams, and adequate time to complete the relevant training for our apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutors are great but BPP as a whole are not great. The syllabus had endless mistakes in for our last exam that made revising very difficult. There also some sort of errors every time it comes to booking our exams etc that come from BPP.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The accounting qualifications we sit really help our roles in audit.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am on the KPMG social committee. We organise the social events for the audit department in the Leeds office.

    8/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • The hours are long and you often feel undervalued and underappreciated. The pay does not reflect the hours we do and the work we do well enough.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Get comfortable with KPMG core values and what the role of audit actually entails.
