  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Iceland is a fast paced food shop. No two days are the same . We have to replen and keep the shop floor looking good every day . We carry out daily date checks to ensure all stock is in date , fresh and good quality for our customers. Customer service is really important We ensure we have the right attitude at all times.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed the training to become a duty manager. I have learnt how to carry out date checking and how important it is to ensure its done thoroughly. I've learnt how to do the daily waste and ways to reduce the waste costs . I carry out the end of day store close down which includes ensuring the store is ready for next day trading , checking off the store walk book and ensuring the alarms are set .

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I've enjoyed the apprenticeship as it's helped me improve in many areas especially around customer services and giving the customer the best experience. It's helped me improve my confidence in how to approach customers and deal with any questions or issues they may have. Also feel more confident in carrying out my duties and to ask questions or ask for help from my colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship is well organised. It's really simple to stay on track and see where you are and what tasks are to be carried out. The trainer is always on hand if I had any questions or issues . The trainer always asks how I'm doing and adapts to my way of learning .

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is supportive. I have a store manager, five supervisors and quite a few duty managers that I can ask for support at any time . They are very thorough when training to carry out new tasks and understand that we all learn differently. My store manager spends time with me on a regular basis to talk about my apprenticeship.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I've received a fantastic level of support from my trainers . I have struggled with my maths learning and get nervous with exams . My trainer has put in extra support in the areas I needed which has helped grow my confidence and I'm learning new ways to learn in the right way for me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The apprenticeship has massively improved my confidence in being able to communicate with customers and fellow colleagues. I've improved my housekeeping duties I always look out for and sort hazards out . I've learnt to look at our shop floor through the customers eyes and know that the customer wants to see a clean and tidy store with the products they want.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have different social events several times a year . For instance we have a Christmas doo every year and we do something in summertime. They have a football stores tournament yearly . Several times a year the store does a buffet in the staff room . Once a year we have an area event where all stores on the area go to an event and they hand out awards for things like colleague of the year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Iceland is a great place to work where no two days are the same. Iceland has a family feel to it the colleagues are very supportive of eachother and are always on hand to offer a listening ear. The colleague voice is a great addition to the store always on hand for any questions , worries or fears.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Try not to feel shy or nervous, our Iceland store are a good bunch of colleagues who will treat you like family. There's plenty of new training opportunities to take part in to further your career . The colleagues are always on hand to offer advice or answer any questions.
