My day to day involves replying to emails, and completing the tasks I have assigned to me. These tasks are rolling forward workpapers, selecting samples, extracting these samples into excels to send to the client and then either gaining the support via email or having calls with the client to discuss this support. I then document the support into the workpapers.
I have learnt professional and business language and how to apply this with communication. I have also learnt great excel skills which I never had before. I have also learn advanced accounting knowledge and this job has given me exceptional experience within the professional working world. I have also gained confidence.
The audit apprenticeship is a great scheme to learn new skills and can be interesting at times but day to day tasks can be monotonous and the same. I enjoy going into the office and working with my team and learning new things but the work can be boring at times.
My programme is structured in terms of the dates of exams and learning modules but BPP the training provider can be behind on learning materials and they sometimes don't mark exam steps in time for the exam which is not helpful. The KPMG team are very helpful too so overall it is a good programme.
I receive support from my employer but not close support. We have support when we are in college learning the exam content and we also get support from the tutor, the BPP team and KPMG team in the weeks leading up the exam. I have found the exam team to be a little unreliable at time however.
As above, when learning the exam content the tutor is very supportive and then in the weeks leading up to the exams, we also have support since we are able to email the tutor, email the BPP team, we can upload questions to the BPP VLE hub and we also get emails from BPP on the progress of our steps.
The learning, skills, knowledge and content I have gained from my qualification so far has been really beneficial at giving me understanding in my day to day working tasks. I have been able to gain the underlying accounting knowledge which is needed when producing audit work and so I have been able to perform better.
There are numerous extra curricular activities that KPMG offer such as a football team, netball etc. I also receive emails on different groups to join such as woman in power, and there are different activities to get involved in regarding religious beliefs etc which is really opening and inclusive. There are also social events which my department and team.
Yes
KPMG is a great place to start your career especially as a school leaver as they support you with every decision and give materials when you need it. They offer a great scheme with the qualification and the working side of the apprenticeship too and the pay is also good.
To always be positive, and confident and always have a questioning mind. KPMG is a very friendly, quirky, and personality place to work and it is a company which supports everyone being themselves. I would say to have determination, work hard, show keenness and be positive / have a high morale.
