The role involves engaging with our wider teams and helping to support them in their various processes helping to minimise any risk posed. Typically down through monitoring of updates, completing updates and speaking with team leaders. Completion of the role is down through using mostly Microsoft office, teams and a variety of internal systems
I have picked up a number of new skills since switching to the role. Through my time I have picked up a lot regarding understanding the internals of how a bank works and operates. How to evaluate the risk of an idea. I have also improved my skills using office and computers.
The program has led me to learn a good amount on subjects that I knew nothing about before, I had never worked within a bank or in a corporate job and this role has helped me to understand what a career might be like in such a role. I have also been able to meet with people of varied backgrounds
The program is well structured and we are given allotted time each week to focus on our studies so this helps to balance the two. Throughout we have also been given the option to take part in training/workshops outside the day to day to help improve various skills such as presenting.
As previously mentioned the employer does offer allotted time each week for our studies and course work this is a great help in allowing us to work and study while also having a social life and being able to do more recreational things. In work we also have a talent coach who checks in with us regularly to see how we are getting on.
The university provides a wide variety of resources for us to access in helping with our studies. We also have a learning advisor who checks in with us regarding how we are progressing or if we require any support for the program. The university lecturers are also very quick to respond to queries.
There have been a few matchups between what is learned on the course and what I do in role. The role itself is quite specific and the course more general so don’t marry up exactly whoever it the course does help to give knowledge on a wider basis that may prove useful in switching roles or businesses
There are regular activities held both virtual and in person at the office. These have ranged from workshops in knitting, blow up playgrounds, Christmas parties and win/whisky tasting sessions. As an apprentice there have also been numerous networking events held on and off site to help us better know our peers or meet with management.
Yes
The work hours have been great coming from a shifting pattern to a set mom-fri 9-5 has been great for organising and planning things outside of work. The company also offers numerous benefits and opportunities that simply were not offered in previous roles. The program also gives a bigger scope of jobs to get into once completed.
Come in with a positive and can do attitude, I have been able to take part in a number of things cause I have put myself out there and offered help where I could. Expect a learning curve where you can start off knowing very little and taking in a lot.
