I have meetings with project managers and create designs for Barclays internal software according to set criteria by the bank as well as my own experience within design as well. I also complete mandatory training within my job role too and ensure all tasks are up to date and emails are checked
Yes, I have learnt a basic understanding of User experience design as well as how to build components, how to use several design based softwares, how to meet design requirements within the business, as well as developing my ability to meet with colleagues and discuss how to better the technology for colleagues and customers
I really enjoy my programme, it allows me to develop new skills within the banking world as well as in user experience in general. It also allows me to educate myself and learn a broad range of new skills which I have never had the opportunity to do before now.
The programme organisation can vary, from Barclays side it is very organised and I have a course leader to keep track of my off the job training and apprenticeship side of the degree. In terms of MMU, the organisation can be a little chaotic and things often take longer or are decided after being introduced to us.
A lot of support. Barclays offers me the time I need to complete my course as well as a course leader to keep track of any apprentice requirements like off the job training etc. My manager also supports me greatly and offers support in my learning and time needed to complete assessments
A lot, but I feel it could be improved. The support when asked is great and does offer what is needed, but training initially can take sometimes a little longer to grasp, and a further conversation or one to one is often needed to fully understand what is being taught
I feel it does help, but also a number of parts aren’t relevant. I feel the course could be more specialised to the fact that the apprentices are in a design based role and could offer less theory based work and more physical application work. It is hard trying to learn something that’s very generalised when you’re applying specialist skills to the workplace
Yes there is a number of events such as Christmas markets, brunches, social gatherings within teams and departments, football and tennis teams in the summer months, bring your pet to work days, petting zoo days, mental health days where animals are brought in to brighten colleagues moods and much more
Yes
I feel Barclays as a whole is an excellent company to work for. It offers a great work life balance, allows for colleagues to have a voice and feel included with inclusivity policies such as encouraging people with physical and mental disabilities to work here, and making jobs adaptable to all colleagues
I would suggest to really look into what type of role you’re interested in and not just jump at the first job you find. I’d assess a way to build up within the bank and whether development is something that’s important to you. I’d also suggest really looking into what the job includes and researching
