I am the lead receptionist on the night shift. My job role is to ensure the hotel and the guests are kept safe and secure at night, be there to assist in any customer needs, complaints, and anything else they may require. My job includes using the computer system to check guests in, actioning anything the afternoon shift have left to complete. We have to be calm and decisive as we work alone, and be able to deal with guests from all walls of life.
I have absolutely learned new skills and developed my existing skills. I have had to learn a whole new computer system and way of working. I have previously worked in the hospitality industry but not in a hotel. I have had to learn the ways in which we work and the brand standard to ensure I am giving the best possible experience to all guests, and to promote to ensure future guests.
I enjoy learning and expanding my knowledge. I feel this has made me better in my role and I have gained confidence. I enjoy the online distance type learning. It encourages me to explore more of what I already know. I feel like it has helped me settle into my role and I am a lot more competent.
I have nothing but praise for my learning coach, she is very involved with me, gives feedback regularly and is very encouraging. As for the online platform, I find it very easy to navigate, I find it very clear. Timeliness are clear and what is expected is clear. I know exactly where I am in regards to progress.
I am quite self sufficient when it comes to my apprenticeship. I am confident in asking for help if i feel the need to. My dhm will discuss with me my needs and my progress if needed and will support me with anything that I need support with. She gives me feedback on my progress in the workplace as a direct result of things I am learning because of the apprenticeship.
My learning coach is wonderful. She contacts me regularly to see how I am getting on. She provides feedback in a good time frame and always asks what I feel I need support with and will give me ideas where she feels I need support or more knowledge. She is full of praise and ensures my manager knows how well I am doing.
I feel that my training has absolutely helped my in my job role. It has encouraged me to push myself and actively seek out more knowledge on topics I am not as confident on. It has encouraged me to seek advice and knowledge from my colleagues which has strengthened my relationship with my colleagues.
We do have our annual Christmas works party which gets us all together. My dhm has organised a bingo night for us along with another site. She has asked us what we would like to do. There is some opportunities for us to go on professional events such as the GOSH nights fortes members who help out with the charity.

Whitbread feels like a family, I love the opportunities it that are available to to progress in the company. There are a lot of preks too such as discounted rooms and discounts on food plus lots of others. There is a bonus scheme. There is lso a lot of support in regard to how we qork, there is always someone willing to support and advise whether is be a colleague, a manager or another pi site.
I would tell them there there are opportunities to progress if they wanted. I would tell them to go into it with an open mind and be willing to learn and grow. I would encourage them to apply by telling them that it is loyal company who encourages staff longevity. I would advise them that they need to sty professional but also be warm.
