My role as an audit apprentice is to assist on the audit engagement and perform work on certain areas of the file. Every day looks different to the next, but will almost certainly involve completing workpapers on excel, assisting team members with tasks and communicating with the client.
Since joining the firm, I have been able to broaden my accounting knowledge and understanding of the audit profession, as well develop certain skills, such as Excel skills. I have also vastly developed my understanding of the corporate environment, including the jargon used and the professional standards to adhere to.
Overall, I enjoy the apprenticeship programme; it has been an insightful experience thus far and I have appreciated the opportunity to gain invaluable experience whilst also earning qualifications and receiving a comfortable salary. There are high expectations to adhere to, but I have found this pressure to be a a beneficial way to learn.
The programme is structured to a very high standard. At the start of the apprenticeship, I was made aware of the college timings and exam dates, as well as the deadlines for apprenticeship requirements.
There are many resources to access as an apprentice when support is required. As well as allocated performance managers and performance leaders, there are also multiple different streams of support provided, depending on the issue faces. I appreciate having different options when it comes to accessing support so you can chose the most suitable one for you.
The tutors at BPP provide fantastic support both during college time and in the lead up to exams. In all of my communications had with the tutors, I have felt that they took effort to ensure I fully understood the materials and was in a secure place in my learing.
The content I have learnt to earn qualifications has vastly improved my understanding within my job role. It has been particularly useful to develop my accounting knowledge, which forms a large part of my role.
There are many activities to take part in at the company. There are multiple sports teams, socials, and committees. I am part of the social committee and have really enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and organise the work socials.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend that was interested in accounting as I feel the opportunity to work in one of the Big Four firms is invaluable in the experience that is gained. The salary is competitive and the culture is positive and inclusive.
Take some time to go through the KPMG values and consider whether they align with your personal values, and research the role in depth. This will provide some insight into whether you will be a good match for the firm and find the work rewarding.
