I analyse data and create dashboards in order to give unit leaders an oversight of the trends occurring with the claims coming into their unit. I also complete a weekly report connected to policies we issue in order to provide enquirers with details of any employers liability we hold for a variety of companies.
I have developed existing skills whilst on this current apprenticeship. The skills I've developed are around Microsoft Excel and involve being able to present the data in more streamlined and visually pleasing manner in order to provide a more user friendly dashboard. I have also been able to speed up certain aspects of thing I do in MS excel since learning some new functions.
I enjoy the virtual lab days; these have proven to be particularly useful in giving the opportunity to put into practice some of the things I'm learning. This is important as not everything new I learn is applicable in my role yet so the opportunity to practice the skills is important. I also enjoy working through the excel videos and practice examples at the end in my own time.
I found the beginning of the programme very confusing. There was not enough detailed explanation of the structure. I don't think it is clear enough for someone who does not know the structure. The further I go along in the programme the more the structure is starting to make sense, but I feel the beginning of the programme is rather off putting and it has made me consider resigning from the programme on several occasions; it was only the virtual day labs that have kept me going so far.
This is a hard question to answer in that my employer is very good at giving me the time to study and complete what I need to do; but they don't have an understanding of the structure of the course and what exactly is required in order to provide anymore support other than time and flexibility.
I feel like the training provider is always ready to help me with any questions and advise me on what to do; however, from speaking to other colleagues also on the same programme that some of the tutors are just reading from scripts and don't fully understand the structure of the programme themselves. However, there are some tutors that appear to be very good at understanding the course and provide a great deal of help. Fortunately for me my colleague was able to pass on the help they received from their tutor to myself.
I feel that the actual training I am receiving will help with my role as it is providing me with additional knowledge of MS Excel and I can put some of the things I'm learning into practice in order to be better at my job. The extra time I have to spend learning whilst on this programme is also of a big benefit as I actually have the time to learn.
I believe there are on occasion but it is mostly dependent on what location you work at. In offices with more staff and larger teams they do organise quiz nights and volunteering days etc. In smaller offices and teams there isn't so much extra-curricular activities; the team I work in don't have any extra-curricular activities as we are an extremely small team who all work from home. There is the opportunity to join online groups in Yammer.

All the time I've worked for RSA across two different teams I have enjoyed it. I feel I am paid fairly for what I do and that I have always felt comfortable in being able to voice any concerns I've had about anything work related or even personal when needed. RSA has a very inclusive atmosphere and tries really hard to promote diversity and inclusion right across the company. I've also found it to be a very flexible company giving time and support when needed.
I'd advise showing your unique skills and personality in a professional manner. RSA like to employ people with a variety of skills and personalities in order to promote diversity and inclusion across their workforce so the best advice I can give it to be your authentic self and if you have the required skills for the role you apply for then being uniquely you will stand you in good stead.
