4 Days a week i work like any other Standard level 6 employee, I have my daily processes and plenty of work to fill my day, I have little contact with outside of the business but a good amount of contact with my team and different teams. My current team does tend to have a narrow scope on accountancy and without moving team i will struggle to learn all of the aspects. My Team is really friendly and a joy to work with.
Yes i have learnt and developed new skills, Academically i have learnt about Accountancy from the basics of credits and debits all the way up to tough knowledge. As well as this my skills on Microsoft excel have greatly improved. The world of work also teaches you alot of social skills you do not expect.
I personally find the learning programme kind of boring, the teaching from Babington can feel very robotic and hardly enthusiastic from the tutors. In terms of work sometimes i feel bored as the work can be monotonous which i expect to improve as i hopefully switch around to learn more aspects of the job.
The programme has some organisation in terms of us being assigned to our own team with a designated line manager, the apprentices all have our own work but the training provider Babington can often feel very unorganised especially with the common occurrence that is switching tutors so it is hard to learn a teaching style.
I feel i receive a lot of support from my employer, We each were assigned our own mentor and he is constantly going above and beyond to help me and to further my knowledge and reach inside of the business, I do feel like i will be able to succeed thanks to his guidance
Babington has been very hit and miss with the training in my opinion, the switching of tutors and the lesson style is something that i have never been fond of, this does cause a lot of the lesson on AAT to drag and therefore not be enjoyable as they should be thus i don't feel the learning is as valuable.
I dont feel a massive benefit in my current position but i imagine in the future i will as i will need to be aat qualified to move into higher positions in the business so the qualification helps to expand my knowledge of accountancy to be fit for the roles i plan to undertake
Quarterly social events with other apprentices, bowling, food, drinks. Christmas nights out with work. No sports teams that i know of. We have meetings with CEO and people who are high up in the business. No large scale business wide networking events so far though. Although my mentor does have opportunities for me to converse with other segments.
Yes
Its a great alternative to university, the people you work with are very kind and welcoming and are happy to teach you the ways. Along with that you also finish the apprenticeship AAT qualified with great skills in different platforms along with programmes used everywhere in work such as microsoft Excel
Attend the interview as yourself, your manager much prefers honesty and openness so they can get to know the type of person you are, then when you're in work you can act yourself. Also be prepared to work hard but also be happy to make friends with people of all ages.
