Pretty much of my day-to-day involves me programming with the language Python;. The things I program are mainly IaaC (Infrastructure as Code), this means automating, adding, and customising features on top of an infrastructure and in my case this is Microsoft Azure. I mainly focus on the AAD application side.
I have learned many new skills while starting my apprenticeship, these consist of the basics of Azure, and Python and working with variations of APIs. This by itself has advanced my knowledge in Object Oriented Programming in general. Because of learning Azure, I also have a deeper understanding on how Infrastructures are created and managed.
I really enjoy the program I am on, the apprenticeship provider is fine but the main enjoyable part is the workplace. I really enjoy the type of work I partake in and the people that I do it with are fantastic and really welcoming and understanding. My manager in particular is amazing to work with!
This is a tricky one, in the work place my program is fine completely but outside of it in regards to the apprenticeship it is a little bit concerning sometimes. And this is only because of how they plan and execute the training when I have to go to the on-prem site. The hotel is nice and all but the resource and teachers etc are a little concerning.
I receive so much, I am quite lucky to have such a nice company to work with. My employer and the early careers team inside of Fidelity are amazing in terms of help and support. I can ask them anything and they will be open about it and guide me through it.
I don't receive too much to be perfectly honest, sometimes the replies can be late, and like I previously mentioned it seems quite unorganized at the on-premise site where I do my training at. Some people don't know what the exam will be like, some of the things taught wont even come up on the exam etc
In some aspects, it definitely does help, especially while creating a new project or understanding how things are structured and what stages of the life cycle the team is currently in, and what they will be going into. In the Python course which I was on I already knew the majority of what was being taught so it was not too helpful in that regard.
There are a few extracurricular activities inside of the workplace but most of the time I partake in them when the team goes out for a few drinks and dinner. Additionally, since Fidelity is part of Investments 20/20 we do have a few talks and meet-ups where graduates and apprentices from different companies come together to socialise and network.
Yes
It is just an amazing place to work, it has amazing teams spread out all across the world who are really supportive of you and really invest in your development as an individual. The workplace and locations of offices are fantastic also, everytime you go into the office you really feel ready for the day and the challenges ahead.
Just stay calm, problems will occur but that is the case with every new challenge and obstacle you face in life. If you can just focus on ur work and on educating yourself you will have a fantastic time at Fidelity and also fit in perfectly since everyone else here are hard working individuals also!
