I work as an apprentice smart energy engineer. We carry out smart meter exchanges and gas meter exchanges at British Gas customers houses. Making sure we’re working safely in line with laws and regulations. We carry out training up in scotland at British Gas Hamilton academy where we get our electrical and gas qualifications.
I have learnt a variety of different skills while working at centrica as well as developing a lot of skills I already had. I have learnt new skills such as working with gas components and systems and I have developed my electrical knowledge and skills massively. I have also developed existing skills on using tools.
This course is really enjoyable so far my peers are good crack and easy to get a long with and the tutors are excellent. We’ve been heavily invested in and I feel happy working with this company. The ethos of the company is very good and it feels like a great company to work for
The programme is excellently structured I am a massive fan of the length of the course as a lot of people who do this job have done career changes and aren’t interested in apprenticeships that take 3 or more years so this 1 year course is very appealing to me.
I recieve a lot of support from my employer we always asked how we feel about everything and are always given guidance on everything we do. We have many different paths to go if we do need assistance or help whether it’s with the tutors in the academy or online through the centrica website
We receive loads of support when working towards our qualifications. We have loads of different resources we can use, on my learning day and the centrica website, which can help us towards our qualifications. The tutors are also very helpful and we also have access to all the PowerPoints online.
I believe without the qualifications we wouldn’t be able to perform our role to a good enough quality or at a safe standard. The qualification helps make our work safe as possible and making sure we leave no stone unturned to make sure customers houses are safe as possible.
There isn’t any extra curricular activities that centrica set up as I’m aware of at the moment. However at the hotel we have near the academy there is a gym spa and pool as well as that we have access to many benefits through centrica such as gym pass etc
Yes
Because it is a good company that provides many benefits to its employees and they seem to care for the employees allowing them to improve and progress in their career. As well as taht the people who I’ve met while working here seem to be great people and have good crack
I would say go for it if you show your interested and have the drive and motivation to do well it’s a great job. But also make sure it’s a job you want and do apply for the wrong reasons. You should go into it with the best interests
