As part of my my role I work within a team of full stack developers as a full stack developer myself, we work based off of a Kanban board in which we can assign our self or be assigned issues to work on, every two days we update our team on our current issue and plans for the rest of the week.
I have heavily improved my coding skills in python, html, css, and javascript. I have also been introduced to frameworks as i work on a web app such as flask. My teamworking and communication skills have also vastly improved, through pair programming and scrums three times a week, it has also improved my confidence in technology as a whole
My programme is quite enjoyable, it is a program currently in the midst of development, and being redesigned as we speak, i find lots of interest in it, and it contains most if not all coding practices someone would encounter while learning to program themselves, the apprenticeship program at Barclays is very accommodating
My program is very well structured, there are set out blocks of university, that we do for 2 months, that fit in line with what I do in work, meaning the lessons I've learned in each compliment one another. They really build you up from the ground to wherever you wish to be
The support I receive from my employer is very good, as a no experience role, they are very accommodating and are aware of everyone's ability, not only is the employer helpful but I work among other graduates and apprentices, so they can provide insight from there own experiences aswell
ample time is provided while at university to complete projects your assigned, however when studying for exams which fall within work times, you are not given any set times where you are allowed to study, all studying must be done out with work time, which can be stressful, but doable
I feel that my qualification being completely tailored to my graduate apprenticeship position is extremely helpful as they are aware after many years of running the program what apprentices may encounter in work, so can facilitate accordingly, on being professional with regards to your role and technical aspects as well as that
There are commonly professional networking events, that I have attended, they can be enjoyable, and mostly fall out with work hours, but helps garner better relationships in the workplace, such as a "meet the teams" event, and team lunches, dinners, and drinks, all play a part in enjoying your work life
Yes
It is an extremely valuable role, that I feel will lead to lots of opportunities in the future, as I believe leaving university with only a degree is the bare minimum, and that work experience is the key to finding success in the future. I also feel you don't miss out on any sort of university student experience as well
I would say that experience is not the only factor in there recruitment process and that's not what you should spend your time focusing on, the main thing to know for sure is that your passionate about a role in technology, as although it can be enjoyable at times, you may find yourself frustrated
