On a day to day basis as an analytical chemist I use several different methods and techniques to get results from samples. Some of these include xrf, xrd, IC, surface area analysis, particle size determiner. My job also includes routine analysis of certain products but also unique development samples so no two days are ever the same
I have learnt many new skills from my current job. I have the opportunity to learn many new processes I’ve never used or even heard of before I’ve also developed skills like time management and working efficiently that transfer well into any job and even my own life.
I really enjoy my program! I get support from colleges with my job but also support from teachers when it comes to uni work. Each day at work is varied and each day goes relatively quick Uni work is delivered online what means it can de done whenever is convenient
My programme is primarily taught online. 2 modules usually run side by side each having work set each week. The work usually consistencies of watching videos and online homework. Resources are always released on time and instructions are given clearly. Getting used to the system may be toughest thing to do.
The support I receive from my employer is great! They give us a day each week to complete uni work. They also allow us to spend time revising when an important test is coming up. They are also great at communicating with the uni and making sure we get regular reviews.
we receive ample support from our training provider. Each week our employer gives us a day to focus on uni work. The uni themselves provide us with live lectures where we can ask questions and pre-recorded ones which go through topics. They also provide lots of questions and past papers which they give worked answers to.
My qualification through my training provider helps me be better at my job in a few ways. The main one is having good time management. Balancing a job and uni can be difficult but uni help by setting weekly tasks that break it up into manageable sections. They also offer many services that help with writing and numeracy skills.
There are activities set up outside of work. These vary from Christmas events with individual teams to whole group activities like paintball. These are great events and really bring different teams together that we may of never interacted with if it wasn't for these events being held. We also volunteer for a day a year which is a great opportunity to give back to the community.

Luxfer MEL Technologies believe in personal development. It is one of their core beliefs and they encourage people to complete at least 40 hours of training each year to help develop them. These vary from health and safety to forklift driving. There is also an amazing safety culture at work.
Research the place. From what Luxfer stands for and what they do to how you would get to work every day. It is great if you have a genuine interest in working in the chemical sector. By far the most important thing is to be true to yourself.
