  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot since starting. Each day I’m learning new tasks and gaining more responsibilities from my managers, this helps them to take some of the work from them, while giving me then room to improve. I’ve learnt more about guest interactions and how to handle certain situations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I find it quite enjoyable. I like to learn new things while working, so this programme is perfect for me. This program allows me to work at my own pace whenever my work schedule allows. While we are set targets on when to get things done, we are able to work at whatever pace is comfortable for us.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I can only speak from my experience with my trainer - Mary. But my programme is quiet organised. We have deadlines, new work is available when I want it, this allows me to work on different modules when I feel I’m ready to move on. Overall, it’s very organised and has a fair amount of structure while still allowing me to work at my own pace and ability.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Since getting my new manager we have worked closely to make sure I’m getting enough support for my programme. She had sat with me and helped with things I am unsure on, explained things too me as much as her knowledge allows, all while giving me a good balance of work and allowing me to have time to work through my programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider, in my case is Mary, she has been great with helping me with anything I’m unsure of, or even double checking things with me when I say I’m sure. She works with me to gain more knowledge, she pushes me to learn knew things and to gain more experience in my situation.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel since starting my programme I have learnt more about the job and what going higher up above my role entails. I now try to take on more work and gain more knowledge through my experiences and my tasks. Overall I think both me and my management team would say I have performed better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Unfortunately we don’t have any extra-curricular activities available to us. It just isn’t something that has been offered. It’s difficult because of our shift patterns to do things outside of work as a work team. I’m sure this could be something we could work around though.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Whitbread to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Since working at whitbread I have grown not only in my work life but personally as well. I am a more confident person in work but also at home. I know more about the hospitality sector than I ever did before. Overall they are a great company to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • Be yourself, be open to learning new things and getting progression within your job. Whitbread is a company that offers progression regularly to its staff, through new training, apprenticeships, new job roles and new responsibilities. When I first started I was fresh out of college, having just trained as a hairdresser, I decided this isn’t something I wanted to do anymore. I started as a housekeeper 12 hours a week at whitbread, I’m now a full time receptionist who is looking to progress to management roles.
