My role involves repairing production lines, creating brand new jigs and fixtures, completing maintenance and calibration activities, implementing new equipment and production lines, investigating different problems both with the production as well as with parts that are made from external suppliers, and finally running different projects as part of a team within the department.
One new skill that I have learnt is how projects are run, I have gained a deeper understanding of what is involved and what factors can influence them. It has also helped me to understand how much planning is required for a successful project, especially one that has a hard deadline.
I enjoy the programme greatly, there is always something new to do and learn about which helps to keep things interesting and enjoyable. Everyone is also really friendly and happy to help whenever you need it, including with coursework for college in which if you get stuck your colleagues are more than happy to give you a hand.
There is some basic structure to the programme such as different rotations in and outside of your department which help to give an overview of the company and what we make. However there is not much of a plan within these departments, which means you have to help drive a plan for yourself along with your department manager in each placement.
In terms of support, I receive plenty of this from my employer and all my colleagues. If there is anything that I need for college or that I need to complete my apprenticeship portfolio, I am able to ask and get something arranged so that this can be easily achieved.
I receive a moderate amount of support from the college towards my qualifications. In terms of the HNC I get all the support I need, with all the content being taught to us within a classroom setting allowing for as many questions as we have to be asked. In regards to the Apprenticeship side of things they are not the best at providing support due to their lack of guidance for around 6 months however things do seem to be improving.
I feel like my qualifications do benefit me throughout my role and aid in my development. I often use skill that I learnt in college within my day to day role and they help to give the baseline for many of these which helps me to improve in the workplace without having to learn everything before I can start a task at work.
there are many extra-curricular activities to get involved with, an example would be the wellbeing events that are ran all the time. These include walks such as climbing snowden or long coastal walks, there is also a yearly rounder tournament that takes place in the summer for all to attend along with their families. There are also some networking events and conferences that can be attended along with running STEM events at different schools to help educate and inspire people to go into these fields.
Yes
I would recommend working at Siemens Healthineers as it is an enjoyable place to work that is keen on personal development, as well as this due to the nature of manufacturing there are always new problems that need working on. In addition to this all the extra-curricular activities help to build relationships and make it overall an even more enjoyable place to work.
Tips I would give to anybody that is looking to apply to Siemens Healthineers would be that you should just be yourself both in the interview and day to day, as well as to show that you are keen to develop your skills as the company will aid you in this to make you the best employee they can.
