I am a head housekeeper I start be allocating the rooms then I use a tool called the bedroom genie to work out how many rooms each housekeeping team member will clean that day. I print off the teams individual allocation sheet I the write on which shower curtains need to be changed and which room needs to be deep cleaned, after the team have cleaned the rooms I check them all so they are ready for the guests to check in
On my apprenticeship I learnt about different leadership styles and how different situations call for different leadership styles and that I don’t have to stick to the same one which I was doing. I had to be quite organised to be able to complete the apprenticeship, complete work tasks and still have some time off at home that has helped me be better organised at work
At first I found it very hard because I had to use different web sites with different log ins and at first it was difficult to remember what I had to do on each site but after a while I got the hang of it . I’m going to do a level 4 apprenticeship and now there is Aptem which from what I’ve heard you just need the 1 log in and everything is on there
As I said in the previous question I found it quite hard at first as there was 2 web sites with 2 different log ins sometimes I couldn’t remember which one I needed to go on so I wasted a bit of time going on one eg fuse the realised I should of been on the other one
I started my apprenticeship just before lock down so a lot of it was completed while we were in lock down our hotel was closed a lot of the time so I didn’t see my manager very much then after lock down I got a new manager who was busy learning his new role so in short I didn’t get very much support at all.
As I am a mature student I couldn’t find my exam certificates so I had to do maths and English exams and my coach Dean sorted out lots of virtual classes during lock down which were really beneficial after and before lock down Dean would visit the hotel if he couldn’t visit he always telephoned to check how I was doing and to see if I needed any help
Even though I haven’t really changed how I do my role the apprenticeship has helped me to understand why I have do things the way I do and that the way I have to work isn’t just the Whitbread way it is how a lot of hotels work , which has given me confidence that I could do my role in a lot of hotels.
I have a lot to do with raising money for great Ormandy street hospital and we have done quite a few events as a team , white water rafting, abseiling down the transporter bridge. We are going to have a cards against humanity drinks night , we have had quizzes , Christmas tea for the team we all enjoy going out for a meal.
Yes
I would definitely recommend working for Whitbread I have worked for them for 13 hrs you get some good benefits, you get a rewards card, you get discount on rooms, discount at the restaurants, you get two pound meals when you are working and you get an achievers account where you can get rewarded for doing a good job
When you fill in your application form make sure you attach your cv and don’t forget to put all your work experiences on it no matter how small, dress appropriately for you interview try not to be too nervous everyone who works for Whitbread are very nice and hopefully they will put you at ease
