  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a cluster Terminal Manager responsible for four WDF stores (Bournemouth, Exeter, Norwich and Southampton) with a combines turnover of over £10M per year. My role is to ensure we achieve our business targets, manage the relationship with our airport partners and build successful teams. Full responsibility for P&L. Recruitment, oversee projects such as store re fits.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have grown in confidence, improved my communication style and became more intentional on my reflective learning. I have also used what I have learned so far to coach my direct reports.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the programme, the content is interesting, there are plenty of learning resources and further reading materials and the support from my Tutor is great!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • What I like is that my tutor can tailor the lessons according to my needs, sometimes we change the order of the subject to suit what I need at the moment which is great. It's also good to see what I still have to learn and what I have completed so far.

  • Very supportive.

  • Both my tutors are excellent. They are very helpful .

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me confidence, a sense of personal and professional growth. Because I have to learn on the job I had the opportunity to be exposed to senior management meetings, be included in projects that otherwise I wouldn't be a part of if I wasn't completing my apprenticeship.

  • We have quarterly events where we all get together which is useful for networking.

  • Yes

  • Both WDF and Babington are very supportive, the people are friendly and professional.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to World Duty Free?
  • There are many opportunities, the harder you work the more they come your way. Get to know as many people as possible.
