My role is a software engerneer. This involves programming computer systems and helping members of my team complete there tasks. However, I am not one hundred percent on my role in the organisation as I have only been here for a few weeks and therefore, I am still learning.
I have learnt a lot of new skills including: SQL programming; Python programming; creating presentations.
I enjoy my program a lot because the training which I am being given is excellent, as it is usefull for my current job and the jobs which I may undertake in the future. Also, not only do I get training at Capgemini, I also get a paid degree after working for two years at the organisation.
I have only been at Capgemini for a few weeks at training, therefore I have not been put into a team where I may become valued by Capgemini. I will be doing this after Christmas. However, currently, I feel that the atmosphere at Capgemini is excellent and relaxed, with a real community feel.
My programme is very well structured as was laid out clearly so we could understand from day one. I will being the apprentice programme for two years, where I complete my job task in the day time and after work I can complete my QA coursework. Then, after two years I am going to undertake a degree for three years, as long as having my day job. This means that I will be working in the day on job realted task and then after work I will be studing for my degree.
I recieve a lot of support from the head of the apprentice programme who runs the training for apprentices. However, I do not recieve much support from my training provider of QA.
I recive a lot of support from my employer. I have a line manager, a manger, a reviewer, a team leader, and a head of the apprentice programme, who I can all contact at anytime I need them by phone or email or instant messaging. I feel I alway have a lot of suppport around me and that I am not in too much debt that I can not handle.
My salary is the only downside to the apprenticeship as I have a long way to travel every day, therefore over half my wages are going to my travel expenses, which means my real income take away expenses is very low. However, this is the ability if I work hard to get a promotion, and as a result, my salary will increase.
There are not many opportunities outside work for apprentices.
Yes
I would recommend Capgemini to a friend because not only is it an amazing programme, but capgemini as an organisaiton is very respected in the IT industry, thus by have Capgemini on my CV, it will be easier to get a new job when I am older.
I would tell them to study IT books at A level and study programming including Java, C++, Pyton and SQL.
