  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have since moved roles however during my apprenticeship my role was focused round the Attraction part of the Recruitment process. Managing our social media attraction strategy, collateral, online presence and events and making recommendations to the business based on internal and competitor analysis.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thought the programme had the right level of detail however felt some key topics were missing. The end point assessment professional discussion also felt very unrelated focusing more around behavioural skills. I feel this should be tailored more to knowledge gained on the course to show technical understanding.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The experience was hit and miss as tutors and systems were changed during my course which led to teething issues. There were often issues with documents being uploaded via tutors and delays in email responses to queries. In terms of content however deadlines were clearly set and I understood the expectations here.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I don't feel I was given the opportunity to fully utilise my 20% off the job training as effectively as I should. The company needs to give colleagues regular in work time to complete CIPD work (even an hour a week would be beneficial) and allocate time for colleagues to get experience in other HR sub-teams.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The course and content learned has given me a broader understanding of HR and the impact on the wider business alongside upskilling my knowledge around employment law however I feel more time could have been included in the course for optional lectures to cover off some of the self-learned written content and improve my knowledge and CPD.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am based in the Bolton office however the rest of our National departments are based in Atherstone. This seems to be where the majority of extra curricular activities take place however we are involved in charity events and twice yearly strategy events (summer and winter).

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I enjoy my role however the softer benefits around flexible working, parental leave polices etc are stuck in the corporate days. The company resists change and will never be a leader in the area.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • To be resilient, confident, committed, dedicated and self motivated. Showcase your autonomous working skills and ability to adapt to every changing priorities.
