  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Finance assistant at Aldi, day to day tasks include bank reconciliations and ensuring all monies coming out of the bank have been dealt with accordingly. I also speak to a range of different people within the business to carry out a variety of admin tasks, these occur every now and then

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I use SAP daily, which I had not done before. Also the ability to talk to a range of different people in a variety of ways. we use teams alot in my role to talk with others so I have learnt how to use that. balancing my time is important and I have learnt that

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is hard sometimes when you have alot of work to do and so your off the job hours has to suffer as you need to prioritise work. I dont find it that enjoyable as alot of it is revision, it doesn't seem to fit in well with the way my employer works.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • originally it was, however as time went on the structure seemed to be lost. My apprentice provider does monthly check-ups but these are only a 10 min call, and the online sessions they provide arent that engaging as they are just read from a worksheet. however alot of the work is on you which was expected

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Initially none, I was not allowed my off the job hours and even attending my online learning was frowned upon. after much fighting I have now got to a point where I can do my off the job learning, but only once my work is done. so essentially I need to condense my work into a 4 day week

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have a meeting every month to check up, however the online learnings arent that good. also they dont provide any online material to use whenever you want. I cant attend all online learnings as my work is really busy and so to go online and use the videos whenever I want would be great.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In my current role not a lot, I have an entry role and a lot of my colleagues don't have qualifications so there is no benefit for me to achieve this qualification. I believe it will help me in the future and this is why I have undertaken the apprentice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a social session quarterly which is great, however it is only within my small team, so we don't get to network within the business. the business do have sports teams but they are individually ran and the company don't have any bearing on these. we have online learning for improving Excel.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • it is a great place to work, the money is great and they do push you. however If the friend was studying I would say choose a company that will allow you to grow and achieve the qualification then join Aldi. they aren't that big on qualifications as the top finance directors rarely have ACCA/CIMA

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • ensure you are confident and can do your job well. I think its a great place so make sure you are suited to the role and that you will give a lot. these are the people who do well. you can internally be promoted so if the job isn't quite right for you I would recommend staying in the role.
