  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role was an a flying start three. This is the equivalent of an Associate grade two. My role consisted of taking on specific FSLIs and testing them for the purpose of providing an audit opinion on whether they are true and accurate. I was also responsible of coaching junior team members on areas I was familiar with.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learned many new skills but was also able to develop new ones. I learned how to be a more effective and efficient coach with more junior team members. Moreover I was able to develop my excel skills and learn new functions such as the pivot table and vlookup.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. It is definingly a very demanding course but also rewarding. I believe it is one of the best options if you want a career in Audit. It provides you with work experience and you would have completed the majority of your ICAEW classification by the time you graduate.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe that the Flying Start Degree programme is very well organised. For the first year you get to focus on university alone without worrying about a placement. For second and third years you go to your placements for the whole second term and once you finish you have just enough time to revise for your exams. Although it is very time pressured it is manageable. The fourth year you get to take some pressure off the university studies and focus more on you work placement

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I believe I received a lot of support from my employer, Price waterhouse coopers. I had a career coach who was always keen on letting me know that I could reach him whenever I wanted to and talk to him about anything that troubles me. He would also organise weekly meetings to chat through who I was doing

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe my university, The university of Reading, provides me with a lot of support. I have an academic tutor who once every term he arranges video meetings in order to chat through how we are doing. We can also talk about how we feel and if anything is troubling us.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe my university, The university of Reading, provides me with very good foundations and knowledge in order to be able to perform my role. It is very rewarding to be able to apply the knowledge I gained from my university to my work placements and it also helps me understand the material better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at my work. For example you can join our football team where every Monday has practise and matcheds. Moreover we organise ping pong and pool tournaments as we have both of these tables in our breakout area. Many people from the office participates and competes

  • Yes

  • Pwc is a great employer. They ensure that you know that you are valued and that your needs matter. Moreover they hold mental well-being to a very high standard. We are encouraged to look after ourselves and find a good work life balance. Moreover many offices offer ping pong and pool tables


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Price waterhouse cooper is a great place to work. You need to work well under pressure and cope with a demanding workload but you will be rewarded and recognised for your efforts. In Pwc we value inclusivity so everyone will feel as part of the team and that they are valued.
