I’m am at college full time. I learn multiple different units involving engineering throughout the week. In the half terms I go to gatwick to work for the week or 2. We get to experience new sections every time we go and it gives me a fantastic insight of how it will be when I work at gatwick full time
I have learnt a variety of new skills whilst studying at east Surrey college. I have learned different welding processes and different machining techniques such as using lathes and mills. We also learn theory subjects such as the applications of mechanical systems which I enjoy and others like maintenance which is perfect to develop my skills for gatwick when I am there full time.
The programme gives me the opportunity to learn new skills and experience a new environment. I really enjoy learning new things that’s I can implement into my full time work at Gatwick. Support is always available when I need it and all of my colleagues are welcoming and supportive
I feel the course at college is structured very well to allow us to learn all the skills we need. A nice balance between independent study and teaching is also beneficial as we don’t just rely on teaching to gain new knowledge. I feel the programme is well organised.
Our boss is regularly at our college to check up on us and give us the opportunity to ask any questions we may have and any issues we may have at college. I feel this is very important as we know if any issues arouse we have the support readily available.
The college provides a range of support from the safeguarding team and our lecturers. If we have any concerns or are stuck on a piece of work we can ask one of our lecturers and they will support us in the best they can. The lecturers are dedicated to ensuring we do the best we can in every subject.
The skills we learn at college are almost a 50/50 split between practical work and theory work. This is amazing as it allows us to experience on the job work but also gaining the knowledge we need. We can then apply the theory work to the practical jobs we complete at college
At college there is are a variety of Extra curricular activities such as a 5 a side football tournament, a maths club and a chess club. These activities are well advertised around the college and I highly recommend that they are attended. You will be able to meet new people
